this photo is almost seven years old now - my daughter was about two:
    http://testube.com/files/media-image-039.jpg

She was just a young brapper doing spoken word for the Testube track "Promise of God"...

Her younger brother just got his first drum set this xmas. I'm hoping to keep pushing both of them into a musical direction, if for nothing else to have some decent musicians to work with. Perhaps some day when I'm old and gray I'll pass the Testube torch on to them, like Revco or Menudo have done. ;)

Cevin Key was in a podcast interview recently discussing the fact that there are now kids making music whose parents raised them on Skinny Puppy. We are in interesting times...

I actually feel like its my responsibility to expose my kids to as many different types of music as possible, although I do stray from stuff that "kids these days" might find on their own...top 40s, disney-spawned, boy bands, kkkountry, etc.

Whereas I grew up on an almost exclusive diet of Beatles, my kids get to hear old delta blues, all kinds of rock, industrial, pop, old school rap and breakdance, indie rock, new wave, reggae and dub, swing and rockabilly, classical, lounge and exotica, idm, glitch, cajun, classic country, electroclash, oldies, experimental, you name it...

I also love it when my kids get excited at recognizing a certain vocalist like Bowie, Bjork, or even Snog. ;)

  12. My boy sometimes hummms depeche mode when we go for our drives. I just hope he doesn't turn into one of those dark brooding gawths that paint their face and wear chains. I rather he listen to pop than that!

    @ Chri0s

She's almost five now =) And playing sonatinas already! x)

    @ testube

When I was pregnant all I listened to was Romantic pieces (Chopin, Liszt, Wagner, etc) and post punk. Sometimes Bjork :P
Everytime that I'd play ''Headhunter'' she'd kick inside my belly (For srs)

But now that she lives with my mom...hahaha, she's getting the same fascist treatment I got when I was a kid ''SIT YOUR ASS ON THAT PIANO AND TRAIN THOSE PIECES, SEPARATE THOSE DAMN FINGAHS''

Funny thing is that she loves anything electronic and classical but when my mom plays something else to her she looks at my mom with a puzzled face as if saying ''Am I supposed to dance to this grandma?''

LOL, I am old and ranting about my kid. This is so depressing, haha.

My mom said that my punishment for being a teenage GAWTH would be that my baby would grow up to like Barney and then Hanna Montana and Britney Spears. That's no better than GAWTH

Yes, my mother is a mean, twisted individual :P

@anjia - yeah, I try not to push my kids to play music too much. Don't want it to be the source of some sort of rebellion down the line. Luckily, they seem quite musical on their own. Growing up, there was always a piano in my house. Of course, I seemed more interested in tweaking the automatic "player" settings of it. With my kids, they have their pick of a handful of synths and digital keyboards, as well as a number of traditional instruments and strange percussives. It's fun.

Our son started headbanging on the couch as soon as he could sit up. It worried me until I noticed he was always on the beat. Drums seemed like an appropriate next step...
