what do you think, what is the most profitable industrial sub genre?
It's a fact that industrial rock or metal is most popular genres, in accordance with it most profitable.

But what about EBM, IDM, Ambient or other styles? do you know how much earns popular EBM band per month or year?:)) it is so interesting:)) as i know most of them are non- profitable.

I would think bands like Laibach, VNV Nation, Combichrist or FLA would be hte biggest sellers, but why does everyone need to know how much someone is making for a living ?

I mean even though artists are living a public life, I don't feel the need to know what's in their bank account.

  3. It's a labor of love, not a job to pay the utility bills.

To answer the question properly though, all the bands that fit those sub genres do not consider themselves to BE in a sub genre. So the most profitable venture is the band itself, not the style that it fits into.

  4. i imagine it is the same for all of the genres/subgenres...the top few bands (when you get outside industrial into more popular electronica like techno, trance, dnb, etc, maybe more than a few, but still only the very upper echelon) is able to make any kind of living off their music while the other 99% of the bands earn little to no money.

But there is also the fact that many big name acts get into other music-related fields to make money...soundtracks, production/engineering, etc. I think that would be the way to go if you intend to make a career in the music industry.

The mainstream listener will usually divide the Industrial genre into two categories: Rock, which has a huge mainstream following, and Techno, which is seen as "OONTZ OONTZ PARTY MUSICK" and no one takes seriously. There's a saying that applies to this, "if you go to clubs for the music, you're doing it wrong." Those same people wouldn't say that if those same clubs played more Rock-oriented music, because Rock is seen both as being more listenable on a day-to-day basis and as taking more talent.
That's why NIN, Ministry and the like have sold many many more albums than the likes of Seabound or Assemblage 23 could ever hope to.
It should be pretty obvious then to say that Industrial Rock is the most profitable subgenre of Industrial.

You know, If you want to be miserable in all aspects of life, so Industrial is exactly what you have to do. :P

Do it if you enjoy doing it, not because you expect to be rich and famous, or for recognition from other people.

Trent Teznors and Al Jourgensens are not a very common case.
