I have a chance to get Skyrim for like 30 bucks on the pc. Could you guys answer this simple question for me since everyone on the Steam forum isn't giving me a straight answer. Does it level like Oblivion were the monsters level up with you or does it level like Fallout 3 were you become more powerful that the monsters you fought in the beginning of the game?

SSkyrim - can't get an honest answer on the Steam forum

There really is not a simple answer. The creatures do not seem to level up with you- however, just like Fallout and Oblivion, the spawned creatures change as you progress into the game. For example in an area where you may have met wolves before, there could be a sabre cat or a bear. You might still meet wolves, and they will be easy to kill. Or in an area where you met bandits before, there could be bandit marauders instead.

why don't people IRL quest?

I haven't really seen any stronger spawns in areas which previously didn't have them, like Oblivion did.
There's practically no leveling of monsters, and while I think it's an improvement, it's not necessarily a good thing. Once you get a few levels up and find a nice weapon, every mook in the game will be a walkover, with exception of a few "boss enocunters".
There doesn't really seem to be any area in the game that requires you to be more than level 20-something, and it's only that "high" due to the bosses. Also, why go to the Steam forum to ask this? The official Bethesda/Skyrim forums would make a whole lot more sense.

Soillodge hit it pretty much on the head. As you level up you will run into harder mobs and dragons. I guess that gives the illusion of them leveling up with you, but it isn't the case. I believe it is the perfect balance to keep you challenged in the game without feeling like you are overpowered and everything is too easy.
There will still be the occasional low level mudcrab or wolf running around that you can kill in one hit if you so desire... but the one thing I wish Bethesda implemented into Skyrim is mob immunity... where low level mobs would leave you alone and not attack on sight. If I am a level 40 badass assassin, I do not want to waste my time on fighting a level 2 wolf. The wolf should know I am all business and know better than mess with me.
Other than that, I think they finally got the balancing right.

One thing I forgot to mention is hit squads :P
The further you get into the game, the more people you piss off, and if you do not fast travel that much, you run into hit squads out in the wild. Assassination attempts, bandit ambushes, Thalmor Justicars. I even had a group of nords attack me on the order of an individual I pick-pocketed. That was pretty cool. Gives a nice personal zest to the game. Like, to your face in public they are all sunshine and candy, then they order your assassination..lol

Not really accurate-but I am assuming you did not explore that much. Clinging to the road and just doing quests this is generally the case, because you are following linear progressions where it makes sense to have a boss-or sub-bosses.
Out the wild though it can get pretty hairy. No pun intended. Running into a family of Sabre cats or Snow Wolfs is no joke. If you are not stealth and run right into them, they can easy overtake you even at high levels. In the swamp, when you are up in levels you will find more Chaurus and large frost spiders. The spiders level like the Rad scorpions in Fallout. They just get bigger and more aggressive. Then there are frost trolls, nasty bastards, usually solitary, there are a few places in the game where it is designed that you have to take on a few of them. Labyrinthine is one of these places. I found them on one of the mountains too where I had to face a dragon to obtain a shout.

"but the one thing I wish Bethesda implemented into Skyrim is mob immunity"
This is what my follower is for. I just sprint and let them take care of stragglers. Also cool that they cannot die as long as you do not interfere. They will eventually kill whatever you are avoiding and then catch-up to you. I like to give my follower two high level staffs. Like that hag one that launches fireball explosions. Then just get as far away from them as possible.
Another thing I love to do is that Storm Shout. If I am alone [because it kills everything in the area over time] I just do that storm shout and then keep running. The lightning wreaks havoc on people trying to accost me..lol You feel like a real Nordic bad-ass :D
What I do not understand is, why didn't Sewn post this in the Skyrim thread? And what is SSkyrim? Is that some new mod or DLC where you get Nazi German Draugrs to attack the towns and spread their ancient propaganda? Sounds like fun, and it would be less weird than that whole Sheogorath incident.

So it is setup like fallout 3. Good that is a better system. I will buy it then.

Huh? I spent over 100 hours exploring all over the game, thanks to a few days of being sick in bed. :) I've seen enough dungeons.
Running into a family of Sabre cats or Snow Wolfs is no joke.
Surely you're kidding, those are among the weakest creatures in the game and stop being a threat much earlier than the levels I mentioned above.
And my character is not really that strong because I decided to focus on magic in one hand, and sword in the other, which makes me not so great at either.Posted 5 months ago # -
You are a bad-ass Sumez. We are clearly playing two different games.

Ok I must suck..my guy wears full plate (hes level 19 btw) and uses pure magic. I swap to a sword/heal other hand when I go out of mana but stuff STILL can kick my ass! Im doing the full lightening bolts (Think emperor from Star Wars) but yeah, I still get my ass handed to me a good bit of fights. Got Lydia in tow too.
I love getting one of the Compaions to team up with me and I slink back to my house later on and downstairs is my wife giving me gold when I walk in but up in the bedroom..there waits Lydia. lol

I had to look it up online because I know I am just not making shit up. Seems that a lot of people agree it is a difficult game. So my assumption that Sumez is just a bad-ass was correct and I conceed to his argument as if he was Chuck Norris and can not be quantified with regular means.
I am level 22 now. Using Legendary Dwarven armor, and that Wulfragg big ass axe[I don't know the specs] and just last night I was accosted by a Snowy Sabre cat and one of those tree things. Got wasted. They teamed up on me and it was a snap. SO clearly I cannot play this game. I need to go back to Mario Sunshine.
Now my wife just texted me the PS3 is dead. Damn, that is a real tragedy. I had 2 games going on that machine. Now I am going to go make very sad and angry music again.

I don't know if concepts such as "difficult" or "easy" really applies to Skyrim.
It's more of a hack'n'slash RPG than an action game, and it's really just a question of being high enough level and using the correct skills (which on my character amounts to pulling the trigger to swing my sword and occasionally retreat to heal).
Besides, you get insta-saves everywhere, even in the middle of a fight, so even the strongest bosses are usually beatable with enough potions. The only thing that should beat you down is a dungeon where all the mooks are too high level for you to keep going. The closest I've seen to that is a few dungeons where all the enemies are the second or third tier of draugrs - but at the point where you actually find one of these, there's a good chance you'll be at least level 20-something anyway and should have no problem with them.

I guess we all get to the point where anything else is more productive than playing Skyrim ;) What was the other game keeping you busy?

lol..no, two SKYRIM games :P I had one with a Dunmer where I did like a million side quests and completed the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild but pretty much nil of the main story. Then another with a Khajiit where I did the Companions line and was following the main plot more. So I lost both those games.
It's OK though, we have another PS3 in the house, so I started a new questline with an Argonian.
"I don't know if concepts such as "difficult" or "easy" really applies to Skyrim."
They call it "dynamic difficulty", and it just means if you are like me and just wander straight out into the world forgetting about the quest lines, you will find a nasty place and get owned. Like how I wandered into Volunruud tomb when I was merely level 11 and they treated me rather volunRude. Or how I found myself in some place with a bunch of spiders and hag ravens when I should have been going to kill that dragon in Kynsgrove. My followers must hate me. Whenever they say "I have a bad feeling about this", I just push my way forward..lol
