This is the truth. Listened to a ministry of sound album full of bro step. skrillex is miles ahead. Perhaps you all hate dubstep because you just hate brostep?
    that makes sense.

    BUTTTTT

this is god tier and not even dub/brostep.

yeah. the track I posted wasn't genre. that's the point of this thread.
and to tell people they hate it, because they hate brostep, which is fair enough.

post good dub too. I don't know much dub.

    TACOS!

I knew this was a COBT thread before I even clicked on it :P

What I dislike the most about this new wave of dubstep (which is affectionately called brostep now) is that they replace the trademark of dubstep which is the wobble bass with this annoying, screeching saw synthline.

I like my dubstep with lots of bass and with that special Jaimacan dub vibe.

This Black Sun Empire track is pretty ace too but correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't BSE drum n' Bass/Jungle?

I know DnB is not that far from dubstep but I recall years ago during my rave days listening to DnB and the name Black Sun Empire being thrown around a lot.

  6. WTF is "brostep"? I had to Urban Dict it:

    1.brostep

Brostep is a relatively new sub-genre of music (born out of Dubstep micro-genre) which has no emphasis on soul.

The goal appears to be to produce music as fast as you possibly can, without placing any emphasis on quality.

Unlike Dubstep where sub bass is key, Brostep places more emphasis on ratty high frequency samples and oscillators that arent even low frequency. Toss in a few hip hop vocal samples and you are well on your way to being the worlds next big Brostep producer.
    ^^^
This does not describe Skrillex imo. There is a lot of work on his music. Very clean and digital production. He brought together the EP's at least and his remixes. Keep in mind the bastard still has not released a full length album. Still waiting to hear how "Voltage" turns out.

The only real "dubstep", album that came out this year that just really hit the mark with me was Emalkay. That guy has some great fresh ideas, always an interesting perspective.

They originally were, they have evolved into more of a hybrid, that last album was all over the place. Really good stuff.

Yeah that's a good foreign beggars/bse track. I have to check em out more.

Oh and bse are sub sub genre neurofunk. Lol. Too many subs.

Yes Michael. That's my point, skrillex is the best brostep. It sounds similar, but is so much better, and more mature.
The production is awesome, the compositions are better and. More interesting than the bros, but sound wise it's still ott and lots of mid range and sounds a bit broey.

    @ Cult

"Brostep" is a derogatory name. It was a name invented by the "underground" Dubstep guys who were jealous of Skrillex's success. The name comes from the new trend of frat boys and football player types that now listen to "Dubstep" aka Skrillex and think they stumbled upon the most underground thing known to man. So if your song has other elements instead of just 140 BPM, bass, and a kick on the first bar and snare on the third it can be considered "Brostep". Honestly, old school Dubstep is fucking boring and I like what Skrillex did with the genre. He took some elements and added his own style to create something new and fresh.

Unfortunately, there are many copy cat artists out there who completely rip off his sounds and style and thus, flood the genre with shit. Check out these Zomboy's songs. This guy actually sampled Skrillex's exact sounds and used them as his own without giving any credit. The best part is... he claims to have created them on his own LOL. I'll let you guys be the judge. Any parts sound familiar?

I hear Skrillex is going to release the "Bangarang EP" very soon. It's all done and just waiting for release from his label. He is not going to release a full record because he said the songs do not necessarily make a cohesive album... which I totally agree with. His songs are more suited for EP releases.

Is Marching Dynamics dubstep? I couldn't even tell. I guess there are two artists I like then that make dubstep.
    Mobthrow I'm not really into.
    And then there's of course

which MBM, MD, and Vex'd sound like nothing I've heard in the dubstep genre.
