"I'd like to request a ban on Eric Christian for accusing me (and RANT) of being behind the sound failures of the DNA Lounge. He said to check sf_hobo's IP and see if it matched mine. Please do."

Haywire needs to stop trying to re-write history. Astute readers will recall that I never mentioned anyone specifically by name. I only asked if it was possible to check the IP log and see if sf_hobo's matched any other troll members, nothing more. Any Moderator could take a look at my posting and verify this...

  7. I'm still curious about the whole 'charging extra money so you can take pictures with us and whatnot' thing. Can we really do that? Because I didn't get that memo.

We just played Richmond, VA last weekend, and we had a few people offer to take us to the Norfolk Naval Station where they took us on a tour of a Navy Missile Destroyer as well as the USS Iwo Jima Assault Ship.

I don't want to tell other bands how to run their business, but Rexx and I genuinely enjoy hanging out with our fans. We've autographed everything from ticket-stubs in Mexico to an empty bottle of Jack Daniels in Germany, and we've never asked for money if someone wants to take a pic with us.

I don't know. Maybe we just recognize the size of this scene, and we enjoy the community aspect of it. On a side note, after we get back from playing a couple of shows in Europe next weekend, there are talks of us doing shows in AZ, CA, GA, NV, NY and PA throughout August and September. Feel free to come up and chat. We're not going to charge you.

  8. I want to just chime in that the during and after the show the band signed plenty of items and posed for pictures with anyone that asked.

The VIP tickets involved being able to show up early and watch soundcheck and hang out with the band for awhile, and in this case they went off and had dinner with the band. Many of us on here get to do that all the time so it's no big deal, but back when I was just a "fan" with no such access I would have happily bought such passes to hang out with bands I love.

One can argue whether that kind of thing is worth it, but the 2 fans with VIP passes that I saw seemed completely happy about it.

And UN were like the 4th band in the last few months that offered such a deal, so it's clearly becoming fairly common, and I have heard of NO complaints so far from any of the fans that purchased such VIP passes.

Even Gary Numan has VIP Packages.. This one looks worth it. I don't care about talking to artist or taking pictures, but this has some cool stuff for those who dig it......

Exclusive VIP packages are available for each show. Packages are $125 each and include the following:
    - One General Admission Ticket
    - An Exclusive Meet and Greet with Gary Numan
    - A Photo with Gary Numan
    - One copy of "Gary Numan's Micromusic" on NTSC DVD signed by Gary Numan
    - One Pleasure Principle Tour 2010 t-shirt
    - One VIP Laminate

To purchase VIP tickets click on the following link:

  11. Sadly this was one of the most interesting threads that has been on here for a while, maybe I am just bored at work. I was planning to see this tour in Toronto but ended up not being able to make the date and I think I would have paid the money to do the VIP package, seems like an interesting idea even though 60$ is a lot although the website didn't have a VIP package for the Toronto or ANY canadian shows that is but no worries now, all the canadian dates have been canceled! I've ordered some t-shirts from local Toronto bands in the last year and got to meet them in person instead of shipping them out and had a great time with all of them, was a dream come true so this would just add to another piece of the pie.

  12. if it wasn't worth it to us to share the evening with you, then why didn't we just cancel the show?

Well because you made a contract, or in the least a written agreement with the promoter? :)

  13. As for the VIP tickets, I think that kind of practice is disgusting. It makes sense if you're a huge star like Gary Numan (but even then I don't condone it), but in this scene it makes none.
If you for some odd reason want to watch the soundcheck, just ask the promoters, and if you want to hang out with the band, hook up with them. If neither of them want you to hang around them, it's probably better not to anyway, whether you paid for it or not. I know I wouldn't want a "friend" who's only there because he paid to talk to me.

The worst example of this is what Emilie Autumn ('s label?) is doing, it's horrendous.

I personally dislike the VIP thing as well.
It's one thing to pay to see a band you like. It's another thing to pay to meet them.

  16. The difference is that Emilie Autumn's fans actually want the VIP packages. It was a smart move for her. They will pay for a signed Emilie Autumn paper towel.

I don't think anybody would pay fuck all to spend time with a musician in this scene. If they do they deserve to lose the money.

The RevCo VIP for their tour last summer was über cool, the key term here folks is GRAB BAG.

I condone this sort of narcissistic capitalist behavior.

It being a smart move doesn't make it any less disgusting.

  19. I agree. Just saying that it actually made sense for Emilie Autumn on a business level. I don't know a single person who would pay to hang out with a band in this scene. If anyone like that exists people are even more pathetic than I thought. The only person in this thread who said they would do this calls themselves Panzer on the Internet. That should tell you something. This is VampireFreaks level.

From what was said earlier in the thread it sounds like the VIP packages were just something that gets thrown on the website in the off chance that someone will actually book it. Obviously it was not very popular if only 2 people booked it. Only the individual can decide if something like that is worth it. But some people have lots of extra cash lying around and they may feel that it's worth it to have dinner with their favorite band, etc. These types of packages seem to be popular right now in every scene and every genre. I've seen them for sale for Scorpions, Snoop Dogg, and smaller "scene" bands apart from UN (but can't think of who offhand). As long as the consumer doesn't feel like they're ripped off, I don't see any problem with it. I briefly considered buying the special VIP package for an upcoming Scorpions show, but decided that I wasn't a big enough fan to justify that. But I'm sure there are many Scorpions fans who would love the opportunity to talk to the band, get a photo or autograph, etc. Then again, Scorpions are relatively big-name artists, I can see Sumez's point that artists in this scene are generally pretty unknown and that it's a bit misleading to have people think they are getting this special experience. But as long as the customer is happy..
