Could anyone suggest a sequencer that works with Ubuntu? Any help would be very... helpful.

used seq24, but it is only midi sequencer for hardware machines.
you can try ardour it is supposedly very ok, but...audio & linux...hm, you will lose a lot of music making time on debugging the system
oh yes...those are free, but try Renoise it is cheap (60 euros i think) and it is great! it is nonconventional sequencer (it is a tracker), but can do audio samples, vst, external midi...great, albeit ugly system if you are not familiar with how trackers work, but once you get it it is "lightningly" fast
