I'm agnostic, because how can you know the right religion (if any?)
If god is the hebrew god, that explains why the world is fucked.

If I was a god, I would pretty much do as the hebrew god does. God is not just, and all loving etc. He is a sadist.
It's like IRL age of empires mixed with the sims.
God is such a damn sadist, why do people worship him? fear?

But really, I don't understand why people can pick a religion, that will persecute others, when there is no proof.
Please enlighten me, dear learned ones!

    I used to be christian.

But say the Aramaic god is really the god (but how even, so many older religions), which branch would you choose? I guess if you consider god to be sadist, but who doesn't hurt his slaves, religion makes more sense... /ramble.

Agnostic is the way to go… I’m sure some would say atheist; however, like theist who try and prove the existence of God atheist need to try and prove the non-existence of God. Atheist will come out with their rather boring and formulaic arguments that religion is the cause of hate, intolerance and wars. Yet, when you analyse the structures of all of these it is mainly man (yes, man) ‘wanting’ power to control or gain influence, even many of the ‘so-called’ religious wars Religion, nationalism are just a few tools to gain this power.

In the same way theist will use the arguments that the universe could not be random cause and effect, and there is much beauty in the world. Even the world of Goths!

We need to distinguish between the possibility of supreme transcendent intelligent being and religion which is humankind’s interpretation of this being. Religion is tries to box the transcendent in rules and orthodoxy which is then used by some to gain power over the un-intellectual or physically poor.

Oh, and finally it illogical for an atheist to say they believe in ghosts or aliens or any other transcendent being that can’t be proved. If you believe in same type of ghostly form or electrical vapour or some alien that 100bn light years away – maybe possibly that could be a supreme transcendent intelligent being which humankind calls God.

In short, God (if it exists) is different from religion which is humankind (mainly by fascist, power hungry men)made. Remember history is always written by the winner.

    TACOS!

Religion WAS extremely important in the formation and evolution of mankind as a civilization.

Since we were all savage animals, religion introduced certain concepts that would allow as to thrive and not self-destruct such as "thou shalt not kill" in christianity or "cause and effect" (karma) in buddhism, etc.

But now that we're past that phase we don't need religion anymore since it's a known fact that you don't need religion to be a good person.

Sure, if whatever religion helps someone be a good person that's fine. In the end, it's the individual's decision whether they need it or not.

  11. Everyone is an atheist.... do you believe in Zeus? Mithra? No? Well you are an atheist, some people just take it one god further.

Most informed atheists know that technically they are agnostic because it can not be proven without a doubt that there is no god whatsoever. It is just highly unlikely and does not have enough basis to justify any fragment of faith. It is entirely possible that a fat leprechaun with a spanish accent controls the universe from a bush in New Jersey, but it is incredibly unlikely so it makes no sense to call yourself an agnostic *just incase*. If you call yourself an agnostic it opens a door for people to assume that you DO believe there is a god, but just are not sure what it is. It is easier to prove make your stance calling yourself an atheist, to draw a line in the sand so to speak....at least that is my take on it, and how I identify myself.

    Always Confused

My parents and I have encountered spirits or ghosts, and I have heard lots of stories from relatives.
That's why I think there is a god or something else.

    But god isn't all good.

Thanks for your responses so far.

Is there one type of argument you can use to get people to challenge their faith?

  14. @Cult: There is really no school of thought which claims the Judeo-Christian God is "all good." The same bible that speaks of God as benign and forgiving also says that he is wrathful, jealous, vengeful and will punish people. This would make sense, then, as God is everything. If God is everything, that is also all "bad" things.

For myself, I don't subscribe to any religion at all. Religion was created by people. Spirituality is different and I am spiritual. I believe in a few different philosophies. Most would probably say they contradict each other but that's only if you are dogmatic or closed-minded.

To me, the inability to accept or even consider that there could be things beyond what we can see or hear or touch or believe is an example of being both dogmatic AND closed-minded. There are a lot of people like that in the world. I don't make it my mission to change their minds. If they want to talk or debate about it, I am always game for that but spirituality is such a deeply personal thing that is has to come from inside of them. What I don't like is people who feel the need to mock, ridicule or otherwise judge other people's religious or spiritual beliefs (or lack thereof). Put quite simply, what business is it of theirs? Or mine, for that matter? None.

So to answer your last question, I generally don't challenge people's faith for two reasons: One, it is none of my business or concern (I really don't care what other people believe; it makes absolutely no difference to me at all) and two, because life does enough of that on a daily basis to everybody.

Does anyone take neo-satanism seriously these days ? If memory serves me right, few people ever really did.
