Sorry if this should have gone into the tech forum, but.... here it is.

I got First Anthology by Project Pitchfork and noticed that while most of the songs are remastered there are a few songs that are noted as being "Restored". What does this mean and how is this different from remastering a song?

After further listen to these songs, it appears that they were actually re-recorded. Can anyone confirm this is the case for this release?

  3. Yes, I can confirm that. "Renascence" is a perfect example that an excellent song (as the original song) can also be fucked up in a re-recorded version.

If you lose the original mastertapes (or the quality has degraded too much) there is really no other option then to re-record the songs. I guess that's what happened here.

I think it's a bit like Wumpscut's BT7 re-sample in it's method, just the tracks are less modified. I've listened to snippets and wasn't very impressed with the 'restored' stuff, but ordered it anyway, because some songs really needed remastering plus I'm a bit of a collector when it comes to PP.
