  1. So I usually spend upwards of $200 a month on Industrial and Metal CD's. Sometime even more. I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to start purchasing all my CD's online. I only buy CD's and I'm not into that bullshit download crap either. I'm looking for a reputable outfit that I can trust and that has pretty much every single label plus has all the brand new shit in stock and ready to ship. I don't want to get raped on shipping so yeah, it had better be free or really low. Also, I want it shipped by USPS cause they just drop the package on my doorstep as opposed to the Brown Shirt's who make you play tag. I'm currently checking out FiXT but I don't even see the new SAM which is one of the things I want to get on my doorstep asap. Let me know who you guys use and are happy with...

  3. I cannot find just one place for all of this, I listen to so wide an array of music. I tend to go right to the artists or label website. Do let me know what you find though. It would be nice to at least have 1 place that carriers post metal and electro noise together.

I am not into downloads either unless I have my choice of format. I am not paying for compressed audio.

  4. I really hope there comes a day when all bands use Bandcamp...

Well beginning in August, Bandcamp will start taking 15% of all sales (in addition to what PayPal already takes), so I can see that affecting a lot of new potential sign-ups since it'll mean indie bands & labels will lose a minimum of 20% potential profit just for the "convenience" of using both services (which are tied together).

It was only a matter of time before BC started charging. Nothing is free, and when it is, it doesn't stay that way for very long.

  6. I don't think all bands using Bandcamp would work because in the end it could become like another myspace in which nobody could escape its gates. Though I think it's a great place to sell albums.

It's about having your own sites and your own digital stores though. I think that's the direction everybody will go in eventually.

FIXT is great btw. They're like the industrial/electro alternative to iTunes.

  7. Yeah, FiXT is awesome. I didn't know about Bandcamp beginning to charge but it makes a lot of sense. Still, I like the level of control it gives you, so that sort of thing would not bother me really. 1/5th of profit for distribution and hosting really isn't all that bad considering a lot of the shitty deals I'd been offered through labels with past ventures. Not naming names, but it made 1/5th look positively charitable...

  8. Yeah, at least it is not a monthly fee. I can afford the 1.80 they would take out of my 10.00 LP. Considering that when I was signed to a label I was making less that a 1.80 per CD and the label and distributor were taking the rest of the cut. I would like if every band used Bandcamp, because then I can listen to albums before I buy them, and they have impressive 128k stream quality. Plus, if the album art is really shitty, i'll opt for the FLACs and ditch the CD..heh

    @Eric
I recommend Storming the Base, they have all the main EBM and industrial + they have some metal and post-industrial stuff.

For specific post-industrial needs I use a mix of Tesco-Germany and Malignant.

They all use USPS. I would never deal with a store that uses UPS or FedEx. Way too much trouble.

    BAH, what S80 said..

I wrote a rant from my own personal experiences of ordering CDS but I'm not going to try and knock distributors, it's a different way to go, they're just trying to do their business but I've had more than a few nightmares to make me jaded on the subject.

    Personally I prefer to download.

  12. How are you able to spend $200 a month on industrial and metal CDs WITHOUT going online? Do physical stores like that actually still exist anywhere?

I always buy from where ever it's appropriate, usually directly from the label if it's available. I think if you require one shop that has all the CDs you'll buy, you're bound to miss some great stuff. Some of the best CDs I have were sold through self distribution, or through small labels that don't have any wide distro.

Interesting, I order from Malignant fairly often (always great service there) but never even considered browsing Tesco-Germany. Are you implying that their shipping rates to Quebec are in fact reasonable, or do you just get stupidly desperate for stuff that only they have? :P

Mostly desperation yeah. Tesco is expensive so when I order from them I make bulk orders, same for the times I use Equilibrium Music.

Yes Tesco sometimes has stuff exclusively or way before Malignant gets it.

I did check it out and they do have cool stuff. I'm too poor to do "bulk orders" for myself, but maybe we could split one some time and I could meet you in Montreal. Actually, I'd like to put it out here that I'm looking for an industrial bulk order buddy in the Ottawa/Gatineau scene. There's some stuff on Storming The Base I want....

Sure I'm up for it, I'll be in the Gatineau region for a day in August, bungee jumping at the Wakefield Quarry (don't ask me why I agreed to do that, I am pretrified lol).

There“s one Problem in germany, if you are member of the GEMA.
As the artist (composer) you are not allowed to stream complete tracks on your own website, when there is also a link to a shop no matter where on this website.
And if you do it anyway, you have to pay for it!

  19. djtekslave,

Thanks again for the tip about Storming the Base. I hooked up with Jeremy and he knew you by name. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. I ordered the new SAM, ESC and Proyecto Crisis.
