    Shots for all !

    @Tsarik

    "industrial should be dance music? of course a fucking DJ would say that... fuck i hate DJs"

    You are confusing DJs with someone that plays MP3s/or CDs...those are not djs.

    ----------------------

    It's amazing that a style of music that showed so much promise (not talking about Millennium, just in general) didn't progress...it actually regressed into this simplistic club junk we have now.

    -----------------------

    @Rogue

    Yes there is still some good stuff coming out now, "Skull & Bones" by Vomito Negro, "Surfacing" by Empty, "Dormicum" by Fïx8:Sëd8, but when you boil it down nothing can compare to the music that started the whole genre.

    And yes I realize the above mentioned albums are not true industrial, but I really couldn't give a shit about all these stupid sub-sub-sub-sub genres that seem to plague this scene as well.

    "So maybe we all should start being Throbbing Gristle again.

    Also: Industrial in the beginning was set up as an alternative to rock. So called "Industrial" with guitars and pits are sure as hell not industrial."

    Lots of Throbbing Gristle songs have guitar.

    Well i really like millennium. Industrial rock isn't really my thing though. I don't understand why everyone hates modern EBM so much, especially Combichrist. Atleast his vocals sound different than the sea of distorted pitch shifted vocals. I think a band like that was needed to break that trend. I am already starting to see cleaner harsh vocals show up. Look at Grendel.

    Yes.

    But there is a difference between using guitars for atmosphere and experimental sound, and playing some cliched out power chords over a drummachine or backing. Most so called industrial metal is pure crap. I have the impression those bands are set up by guitarplayers who are refused by proper metal bands as rhytmn guitarists because they are not good enough. And why should you make this music as a proper metal band (Rammstein) kicks out everyone in the genre? Right!

    I do admit Mindless Faith is very good, but these guys (Hi Rick!) seem to realise guitars can be used to add atmosphere. And they are also mixed into the background making the music much more enjoyable.

    Personally i would like to see more use of bassguitar in EBM. Not only do bassguitars sound much better then (metal) guitars, you can add a healthy dose of funk into the music without ruining the electronics. Kloq shows us how its done:

    Another interesting though, since its mainly US folk who are hellbent on guitars: When you want to be all experimental and underground why use the instrument which is prefered by your mainstream culture?

    Mhhhhhh

    I think i am gonna start me an industrial metal band. :D
    I name it "Throb Throb Gristle" because this band was awesome and influential too!

    I think simply industrial music, is like Grunge music now....you know.... DEAD

  7. Like everything in our genre base of music, it's been ever changing. Have you not heard the new Cyanotic album? It reminds me of the early/mid 90's industrial.

    But no one is doing industrial like Cabaret Voltaire or Throbbing Gristle anymore.

    The cogs keep spinning even though the mechanism continue to get upgraded.

    Cabaret Voltaire is one of my all time favorite bands, but though i have some of the old work, the first album of them i REALLY like is "The Crackdown" and that's when they went electro-funk. "The covenant, the sword and the arm of the lord" is imho one of the best albums ever. Playing it right now!

    Micro phonies is awesome as well, as is "Code" and "Gasoline in your eyes". Those 5 albums are their zenith, though i like "Body and soul" a lot as well.

    Technology is so much different today than back in the 70's,80's...even 90's.Nowdays you can buy (or steal) software that allows you to make an entire album while you sit on your ass. TG didn't have that,no one did at that period....hence,music sounded different.Obviously with such ease of access your going to have some crappy bands out there but your also going to have some people being just as creative as the old skool crowd.I hear awesome albums all the time and even though i find myself reaching for the older stuff alot, I have definitely found some keepers in the newer bands.

    I guess it really isn't fair to call modern ebm "industrial" because it really isn't but this doesn't mean it is bad music. There are quite a few good bands out there today who do this music really well. And old industrial isn't dead it just really isn't called industrial. Its more called experimental/noise/dark ambient music.

    Industrial isn't dead. Certainly not now that TG have gotten over their differences and started playing together again. Maybe they shold send out a postcard stating " Our mission has been resuscitated" :-)

    Still there are enough interesting new bands around doing "Old School Industrial":
    Wolf Eyes, The Spectrometres. Factory Floor seems to be moving towards industrial lately...

    This is what I mean. Wolf Eyes is labeled as noise band. I got firmilar with Wolf Eyes from my time when I was into the noise scene and would go to basement shows in New Brunswick NJ. Not once was the word industrial ever mentioned but they definetly do fit in more with Throbbing Gristle than say CombiChrist.
