  1. anyone have any experience with the Novation X Station?

I'm selling my Roland SH-201 and I'm looking for another keyboard/controller to control my other synths.

Novation's X Station is appealing since it is also an audio interface. Build quality is pretty important and is the principal reason i'm getting rid of the roland.

  2. Honestly? Roland build their synths like brick-shithouses compared to Novation. If you just want a sturdy controller, go for an Akai MPK. Those things could withstand the blitzkrieg! I actually threw mine about my room once upon a time, and the only thing that got dented was the wall! The pads and keys take a proper hammering, too.

  3. From what i've seen of Tsarik's posts, he's not much for VSTs.

Dude, get a Yamaha AN1X. It's got a great keybed on it, it has a unique synth engine, and it sounds good. I think you can get them for 300-400$ used now.

  4. I have an X-Station and I love it. I think Novation makes the best controllers, and before I got it I was really into using the V-Station app. This just seemed like a logical choice. The build quality is great, sure it is not a tank like the old metal beasts, but it is also not heavy, and it runs on USB/AC/or batteries. The other reason I chose it over the other controllers at the time is the amount and variations of controller options. Multiple knobs and sliders, and XY pad, and an adjustable sprung/or/free pitch/mod joystick. I did not see another controller that had all these options and sported decent onboard sounds that I could even play with in an area where you do not usually have power. Say like a plane or a train. Great portability options.

  5. @ KryonikMessiah - He said he was looking for a keyboard/controller to control his other synths, which the MPKs can do just fine.
Oh, and they're really configurable, too :)

Part of the LCD screen on my REmote 25 is flickering intermittently,
aside from being a piece of shit.. that is. Just thought I'd mention that real quick.

  7. i fail at wining bids on things at ebay. got outbid on the x-station 49.

so i just bought a new x-station 25 for $350. its going to integrate really well with what i currently have with room for 1 more synth I've been lusting after the Yamaha FS1R.

2 midi outs will go to the FR XS and the other to FS1R and the through from the XS will go to the Eventide Eclipse. Eventide is on an FX send from the mixer. I'll be able to record into my pc through the X-Station's interface and then through usb and sequence on of the synths i'm not actively controlling as well. I'm going to find a good sample editor and make my own drum/percussion and drone, weird experiemental sounds samples and just sequence those with software too.

i don't have any monitors so it'll just be for jamming through the roland KC-550. i guess the next step would be to get some decent monitors.... or a nice PA.
