i downloaded like 50 new albums from 2010/2011 and half of them sounded like they were made in some east german guy's basement in 1984 :(

  4. i like the mix of these new-oldschool / anhalt ebm bands with folkmusic.
    a example from my country:

and from China ( very "kitsch", but cool) :

    ....

and the mix of electro-clash with oldschool ebm?

No more DAF/Nitzer Ebb clones. Old school is much more than that. No more terrorbanana!

@ campee: What do you know about east german music from 84?
It was not that bad...I recommend the "Parocktikum" Compilation for beginners of east german underground music.
And some recommendations of bands: Expander des Fortschritts, AG Geige, Sandow, Skeptiker, Zorn, Feeling B., Hardpop, Ornament und Verbrechen.

I'd say no more bad old-school ebm clones. EBM is a style and as such, there's nothing bad in people making ebm music. The problem is that EBM is easy to imitate, but as every style hard to do it well.

I like Salem. At least it doesn't sound like some virus presets + distorted vocals.

    Examples?

There have been some good recent releases. Autodafeh, Serpents, Signal Aout 42, Agrezzior, Absolute Body Control, Die Krupps, Orange Sector, etc.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new Blitzmaschine.

I still appreciate the old school sound. Some bands can mix it up with new sounds and make it sound more modern. I think more older fans are into it still than younger ones.

  19. I hated the whole old-school revival thing for the longest time. Then it just kind of dawned on me how genius it is.

Unlike a lot of industrial music it's not afraid to have a laugh at itself. It's unashamedly simple, primal music for drinking, shouting, moshing, flexing and perhaps getting a bit gay to. Kind of like the silliest aspects of punk distilled into minimal electro. I even think the sameyness kind of adds something to it - again, it's this sort of unashamedness which I actually kind of admire. If you introduced things like deliberate pushing of boundaries, clean production, etc it would kind of diminish the point.

Try getting extremely drunk and blasting some Kommando XY really loud sometime and try not to smile! I mean look at these guys!
