I think it looks cool :P And seriously, few other controllers have D-Beams and Ribbon Controllers on them, so it's quite well-featured... Come to think of it I've never seen an industrial band with a keytar who didn't look cool! (prove me wrong here!)

  2. Bet it's $1000+

Plus who the hell uses D-Beam, last time I used it was in '05 and it seemed more like a gimmick :|

I've never used d-beam apart from on a groovebox in a music shop for 1 minute years ago...but it seemed kinda fun :) As for ribbons, the one on my andromeda is fun, but I bet they're a biznatch to assign and it sends a LOT of additional/faulty/erroneous midi data, so a bit quirky in my experience..

  4. d beam definitely seems superfluous.... you should just be able to assign the ribbon controller to effect different things besides pitch

where can one find a decently priced keytar? as in less than $1000?

and also, is a Flying V styled Keytar too ridiculous? what about if the colours of the white and black keys were switched?

  7. keytars are moderately ridiculous.. but flying V keytar is totally ridiculous.

but who is to say ridiculous is a bad thing?

and for moderately priced but great sound... find a roland SH-101 with the keytar grip. probably more limited than a digital keytar but some of the best square wavs you've ever heard.

An SH-101 with Keytar grip is entirely acceptable IMHO. It's a good size.
On another look at this new Roland I think it's ridiculously huge.. No wonder they've got such a big dude demoing it, it would look ridankulous on a weedy industrial guy. And the guitar-style "cutaway" is an ill-conceived aesthetic too IMHO.
The demo-video guy has a really nice way of playing it expressively, though..

I like the look of the Moog Liberation..:)

LMFAO This guy made one for about $1.

The Roland "AX Synth", looks kinda limited with only 256 tones. The placement of the ribbon and mod are cool. Plus some other function buttons on the back make for some interesting technique. Weighs only 8 lbs. 10 oz. The technology is getting better, but still looks quirky.
