"Yesterday's awesome Mortal Kombat trailer sure got the internet in a tizzy. There was plenty of speculation that the badass trailer was promoting a new game or a new movie, but the truth has been revealed, thanks to actress Jeri Ryan's Twitter:

It's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film.

There we have it, folks. It's neither a game trailer or a movie trailer, it's an expensive "proof of concept" video from director Kevin Tancharoen, who hoped to get a new film off the ground.

Thanks to Topless Robot, Kotaku, commenter Dread and everyone else who reported this story. The trailer is below in case you missed it, and it's totally worth your time."

    Shots for all !

Looks like a remake of MK2 with all the same characters. I don't blame them though, that was their best one...all the others failed to come close to that one.

At least the game looks good. I think back to basics is what MK needs at this point. It's gooten more contrived and even harder to play than it was to begin with. I hope the new one will have Sektor and Cyrax in it.

Going by the trailer I would say it does....cyborg looking guys in red (Sektor) and another in yellow (Cyrax). I would love if it was just a remake of MK2, like I said it was their best one.

Mortal Kombat's biggest mistake was going 3d. Everyone thinks it all about the fatalities when its about the game play.

  9. yeah i really miss being able to spam High Kick and kill someone.

  10. Take the fatalities out and you got a watered down more violent version of Street Fighter. I'm not gunna disagree that the game has some depth to it, but calling it the 'chess' of fighting games would be a huge stretch. It takes a tad more skill than something like Marvel v/s Capcom.

The original Mortal Kombat games took alot of skill. You had to preform every hit in the combo chain and all the characters had different special moves. Even Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe saw a return to this form but just felt unfinished. Other fighting games just re use the same characters over and over again "slightly" change their game play and look.
