I forgot to mention that I've got the Proco Rat pedal per Tsarik's and Dogmeat's suggestions.

It is indeed a great distortion pedal. You turn the distortion knob just a little bit up and you get some killer tones if you hook up to a drum machine.

I also got the Pork Loin Overdrive and so far this has been the best distortion I've ever seen.

The 2 trim pots for clean and curve can give different character to different tones making it very flexible.

For which one? The Rat or the Pork Loin?

I'll try to record some beats using either the rat or the pork tonight and post the results here.

hey dodd, which proco rat do you have? there are apparently two versions, very old one and the new one. of course, according to many nothing better to do old farts, new rat is nowhere near old one, i cannot compare as we only have the older model, but shouldn't be much difference on synths and drums. can you compare it to digitech grunge???

    @ dogmeat

Here's a sample of the Digitech Grunge with a MC307

    http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8972277

The Grunge overall is nice and has a very aggressive distortion.

The rat pedal I have is this one

I have no idea if it is the old one or the new but I assume it's the new one because it's in every guitar center I go to.

I posted a sample of the rat in action on the Bring the Noise thread, check it out and see which one you like. ;)

yeah that is the new rat, old one was produced some twenty or so years ago. from what i hear, old farts talk bullshit, new rat is nice, but grunge sounds sweet, for such a cheap ass pedal, this things blows away many boutique thingies. must buy it soon!

I just bought Cubase 5 to run on my Mac... Looking at getting some nicer monitors and an audio interface thereafter.

My next few instrument choices are clear... I spent some time this weekend playing with a friend's Little Phatty (with CV), Oberheim SEM (patch panel version), Doepfer Dark Energy and a DE-sized case of modular filters... Some or all of these will hopefully make it into my setup...I had an absolute ball making patches, syncing the synths, running them through different filter types...so flexible and deep sounding, and not necessarily that expensive.

Of course, I wouldn't mind a digital keyboard/controller of some kind, but damn, the SEM sounds loooooovely. Goes so nicely with the moog...my ears could have been hopped up on the drugs (we had endless cups of tea)...

  15. that is fucking sick Maurcio. I've been lusting after an electric cello for a while.

    gristleize that fucker!

speaking of the gristleizer. they've made a new desktop modules. but its more expensive than a noise swash. it does have a couple of CV inputs though... not sure if the noise swash does. the noise swash just seems to do so much more that i think it'll be my next noisy purchase.

  16. Saving to buy a Spectral Audio Neptune.

This means I will soon be selling a DSI Mopho.

  17. Most people that actually know about synthesis and are familiar with analog devices would agree that the Gristleizer is not really a big deal, and it is incredibly overpriced if you buy the finished kits. The big deal about it is that the unit is simply enclosed and portable, and the nostalgia of having a device that was so integral to the creation of TG's Industrial music.

That being said, even I want one. :D Just for the sake of having a Gristleizer and trying it with different things in my Noise Briefcase. But the Noise Swash for me is a necessity. The Little Boy Blue is also a necessity. I do not know any other machines that match their specifics in such a portable simple package.

The swash also has CV capability, you just have to tell them to add it. Which is another reason why I would go with 4ms. You can have a machine that is all yours, specified to what you want. With your layout and graphics choices. With the Gristleizer you either have to build it yourself, or go with their already finished kits that lack a personal touch.

  18. just went to 4ms's website. think a cv max tweaker with some of my own art on it is going to be my next purchase.

  19. Sounds like a plan. I think I am going to get an Atoner/Sweptoner from them at some point from some cool atonal and drone experiments.

I see the Gristleizer as a big part of the identity of my sound, and each gear I got or will get is attentively thought. I cannot commit the mistake of buying things I won't use, because I'm a broke, hehehe . And for me it was a big deal, because I see it as essential. When I was doing my stuff on the computer, through VST's, one of the plugins I extensevely used was the Throbber. It is sad that the new Tabletop unit is even more expensive than it already was. But it is also sad that the new design is just awful. One of these days I was talking to dodd and we were discussing about it.It looks like a toy now. So I feel even more fortunate of having the first commercial version, which is beautful.
When I was in the advanture of getting it (and it was an advanture for many reasons, specially for me being a brazilian), I was constantly nervous in the process. dodd knows it. Specially when someone of the Endangered Audio's staff told that there were only 5 units of the Tabletop version at that time. The now almost sold out stomp box version had just being released, but what I wanted was the tabletop, for the nostalgic aspect.
More than one person told me the Gristleizer is awesome for its modulations.I don't undertsnd much about it, I'm a noob, but I believe it probably is.

And yes, Tsarik, can't wait to connect the bass to the Gristleizer and see what happens. I'm not with it yet, but I'll probably will by next Monday. :)
Now I need a bow. And an amp designed for basses, because I fear I'll fuck my guitar amp up. :P
