Okay, I don't think it was the Launchpad itself, but I've left it unhooked and deleted the 'novationusbaudio.kext' kernel extension from OSX and it seems to be running dandy now. I had similar woes with Automap just straight-up refusing to work the last time I bought a Novation product and promptly returned it, so am more than a little distrustful of Novation's software arm.
Ach well, I shall return it for an SM58 or something else I might need, no harm done :)Posted 1 year ago # -
Automap, like the cake, is a lie!
I was surprised, having been burned by Automap as well, that the Launchpad actually does what it said on the tin. The mixer-mode and user-modes actually work(!), straight out of the box. But if it presents further problems, then that is a worry.
Can't go wrong w/ a '58!Posted 1 year ago # -
LOL @ RP
I'd get a monome too or a tenori on :P

@ Virul3nt - Found a possible workaround - Evidently, buggering around with your Mac's kernel extensions (as Novation's software does) isn't recommended, but apparently it's quite a common problem, and can be resolved. Apparently it has something to do with the extensions that deal with how the Mac handles sleep functions getting messed up.
If it DOES ever happen, there's a guide to fixing it:

Damn, that is crazy! I would be pissed off to no end. I have never had an issue with the drivers for the X-Station, but I have heard horror stories of some of the older controllers. For the record, I have had no issues with the Block. Great user software, simple plug in and play stuff. Also there are three versions now silver/blueLED, black/greenLED, and black/redLED.
I use it primarily with Cubase. I downloaded the trial of Ableton and it works great with the Block, but I do not like the workflow of Ableton at all. I only hope that there is a MAX/MSP tie in for Steinberg in the future because I love the Monome apps and all the software to get them to work with the Block is free and open source. As far as I know, the Block is the only non-monome device that operates the Monome progs effectively.
Oh I love the Tenori-On, but that price point is out of the question right now. That is another reason I went with the Block. Afford-ability is simplicity is becoming more important to me within my creative process. I was a gear whore for years too, now I find more satisfaction in delving into the hardware and software I have.
That said, my own next musical purchase will be an LBB by Flower Electronics. Then I want to start building a briefcase modular like the synthi.

Yeah the Tenori On is way way overpriced for what it does

i wanted to get a little boy blue. seems like it would kickass for making noises. i think i decided not to because it had 3.5 jacks instead of 1/4.
i know making noisy tracks isn't hard, but i think they're fun and they end up being great sample material.
did this last night

The patch jacks are smaller, not the input-output.

yeah. i wanted to be able to us it in a modular way.. not just run audio through

Crazy track BTW :D Very cool.

honestly never was really impressed by Trent Reznor's work..neither on the innovative nor on the engineering side....but this is just personal preference I think :-)

Michael, I don't know why exactly, but i really like creating self running patches and using LFO's or regular OSCs as a CV sources for notes or modulation.
i can't really create anything too complex that is self running though with just the XS. but i'm definitely going to continue expanding the modular aspect of my set up.
i've heard that Future Retro is going to be releasing XS-ories. i think it would be completely fucking cool if FR released another rack mount unit the same size as the XS with the following:
1. another LFO capable of going into the audible range with the traditional tri, saw, square wavs
2. a sample and hold circuit
3. a crazy oscillator... something like Livewire's AFG
4. 24db lowpass filter
5. bode frequency shifter
6. loopable multipoint (more than adsr) envelope generator
7. Saw Animator
8. a VCA thats different from the XSs.. like a logarithmic or exponential VCAofcourse nothing like that would be released. maybe if the osc isn't as badass as the AFG, totally scrap the bode frequency shifter though cause those are expensive and rare as fuck for some reason
i can dream though

@Tsarik-You could just start building a small modular to accompany your XS ;)
@Yade-no worries. I brought it up because you mentioned him and Manson using only expensive gear. I think Manson is a stooge and could not engineer his way out of a wet cardboard box. But Trent has always made me think about the 50 different ways you can get from point A to point B. But none of it is linear electro, and that is constrained by different engineering ideals.

Michael, I plan on it. Even one upping that..I think I'd like to take a few electrical engineering classes and the accompanying labs for hands on experience and then start making my own modules and synthesizers.
I've got a lot to learn about all of my gear still. Some levels were up on my mixer the other day when i switched everything on and the feedback almost made me shit myself to death. I'm still learning a lot about subtractive synthesis, signal processors, DAW software(reaper) and the Microwave XT will be here in a few days.
speaking of the microwave XT. I'm in need of a wavetable editor/librarian. I hear sounddiver was the best but PC production ceased when they were bought by apple. I've found expensive copies on ebay though. Any of you know of any other XT compatible wavetable editors?

the XT arrived today.
i'm blown away. haven't tried to even program it yet.

Awesome.
I'm going to get a blofeld myself for the same reason. It does everything the XT does and more, but it also lacks the knobbage.
Fortunately, it's got that cool waldorf matrix editor.

You are the Bob Clearmountain of industrial. :)

sound quest is fucking expensive.
sound diver which i hear is the best is only twice as expensive from ebay as uwavedit. i think i'll just play with the XT and learn to program it better before i delve into making my own wavetables.
