  3. Eventide Eclipse

since i already have some traditional analog effects for chorus and delay I felt like i needed some truly alien and classic eventide magic added to the mix.

my next purchase is a hard decision though.

can't decide between a sampler or a drum machine. there are so many really kickass samplers that would be able to cover my percussion needs and so much more. i'm interested in everything from the mpc 60, mpc 1000, ensoniq asr x-pro, ensoniq asr 10, asr 88, and the v-synth... but then the vsynth doesn't have a sequencer...

the drum machines i really like are the jomox 999 and acidlab miami. with something like a T-Resonator and/or Sherman Filterbank thrown in the mix I think an analog drum machine would be more accessible and inspirational.

I know I'll need a sampler no matter what. it just seems that all the samplers do so much and can be used to do so many many things that its a little intimidating.

if i could find a sampler/sequencer that was as easy to gel with as an analog drum machine and didn't have superfluous functions like an on-board VA synth and effects, that had every useful and advanced (variphrase) sample editing and manipulating function available and easily accessible for quick intuitive use, and was also able to sequence and sample simultaneously, with great build quality i'd buy it in an instant. other pluses would be cv/gate outs.

lusting after a lexicon pcm 71. i doubt the eventide will completely satiate my hunger for reverbs but it should hold me over for the time being.

Get an akai bro. Sounds like it'd be exactly what you are looking for.

I'm in a similar situation. Wanting another V/A but not being able to decide whether a Micro Q, Nord, or JP 8080 would work best with my virus. All have their plusses.

Out of those three? JP8080 hands down. Hell, even a JP8000.

Micro Q is nice, Nord is too (albeit overpriced)
But they are way too metallic sounding for my tastes.

I found my jp8000 complimented the Virus B nicely.
    These two belong together.

  6. Cool beans. That's what i'm looking for, something to compliment it.

  7. i'd say go with the jp aswell.

the sh-201 is said to have the same VA as the JP and i really enjoy my 201.. besides the horrid build quality and the filter resonance is a joke.

the only VA i'm really interested in right now is the Waldorf Micrwave XT Shadow.

FWIW, I'd vote for either the Waldorf or the Nord over the JP8080. Virus provides the hypersaw, why get something with the supersaw?
Nords are strong & dry, providing a nice basis. Waldorfs give a unique warbly, glassy sound. I find it interesting that you guys think a JP8080 would *compliment* a virus, rather than cover similar ground.

Incidentally - congrats on the Eclipse, Tsarik!

  9. guess my advice was poorly given. i haven't used the virus or other synths.

another digital that has gotten my interest is the JD 800

  10. I used to have a JD 990, much along the same lines of the 800. Really pretty sounding rom synth.

Just won an eBay auction for a Nord Lead 2 for a very good price. Looking forward to picking it up this weekend, though it'll be mostly for live purposes.
Anyone have one/used one of these?

  13. friend of mine has the Nord lead 2. i think its great for gigging.

i think its a great VA though the sound is a bit dry with just the synth, add some quality effects though and the Nord Lead really shines

Well that's the Nord Lead schtick, isn't it - dry yet strong sounds for use as a foundation. It's not the 2X but yeah, should be good for gigs and I'm sure I'll get some searing leads out of it :) Also I recall the Nords were good for string sounds? Hopefully that's the case, too.

  15. should be good at strings. has PWM and thats what i usually do to get strings, or a supersaw.

  16. I picked this little baby up last week.

  17. thats a nice keyboard. i wish they made higher quality ergonomic keyboards.

after i say that though.. i realize.. sometimes while drunk, and eating cheetos i watch porn. keyboards get pretty nasty... fuck the expensive ones.. i just get a comfortable one from microsoft every year.

ouch..poor you...I own a nord rack 2...and programming this one is a super sucky task...shift-key1-key2 to change some detail on a sound..without my MIDIQuest I would honestly not touch this anymore....also the lack of FX makes it imho not too useful...altough all my GOA and Psytrance friends love it...

oh and the Virus provides Hypersaw only from the TI Series on, I thought...
I would take a Waldorf Q or the JP....I never give my JP away anymore :-)

@YADE: Well, yaknow..I have some very nice synths by now (Andromeda, Little Phatty, Snow, etc...). Only thing missing was a rugged, stable, 49-key piece of bitch that can virtually live in a roadcase ready to rock :) And yeah, the Nords really do seem to be the psytrance staple (or used to be), which I like a lot.
Don't worry, I'd prefer a Waldorf Q. But a JP? Really? I'm not so sure...
