  1. A mono synth with stereo outs is just 2 mono outs- a pseudo stereo situation. You do not program anything different for stereo, it is just how it gets amplified and distributed. Panning and stereo field modulation. The XS is monophonic as well, meaning it can only reproduce 1 voice at a time. Most mixers come with a group of mono 1/4 ins and a group of stereo 1/4 ins. Plus it looks like the XS has multiple outs, so you can route all kinds of things through it and out of it.

To simplify it, if you can change the stereo values of sounds from within your machine, it is stereo. If you have to effect it externally to modify the signal, that would be mono.

I do not mind questions, this is better than endlessly explaining how to get the witch castle vocals :P but maybe you should post a different thread since this is off tangent.

  2. Andy, don't sell the TX81Z just yet.

    go here
    http://code.google.com/p/ctrlr/

there's a software interface to program the tx81z there.
software programmers for a few synths there actually.

i don't ownt he FS1R yet, but i will. I will likely get a mackie c4 to control it and some other vintage kit i'd like to own.

Just bought a E-mu E-Max on Ebay. 50+ disks and it comes in a nice case.

  4. new rack, balanced 1/4" to XLRM and 1/4" to XLRF cables and a Behringer Xenyx802 mixer.

i did a bunch of research on cables. there seems to be a lot of different opinions on the importance of cables.. which i understand... there are HDMI cables that sell for $1,800 that in reality aren't much better than using any random piece of thick wire.. like a coat hanger.

i like everyone else wants the highest quality product at the best cost. so i figured I'd pass on the only ebay seller I've ever saved. I've bought all my cables from them since. they ship super fast and package things in such a way that whatever carrier you use couldn't fuck shit up, even if they tried to.

    http://stores.ebay.com/NY-PRO-AUDIO-CABLES?_rdc=1

i believe they make the cables themselves from the highest quality materials available from mogami, nuetrik, etc. awesome prices.

if you know of better cables for cheaper, let me know

I bought Cubase 5 last week. *luff*
I'm so happy for tweaks like being able to change the order of FX (finally). Also the routing update looks really useful, for ease of side-chaining. Groove Agent One looks surprisingly useful as well. I'm sure the variaudio can be used to tune analogue synths as well as vocals that have drifted out of tune. Woo!

  6. ALesis ion. Selling the prophet and arp.

I don't need vintage analogs. I'd rather have a good room and signal chain.

Next synth wise is probably going to be an XoX Box and a Waldorf Blofeld. Then i'll call it as far as synths are concerned and focus on good mics, room, and effects.

  7. the Alesis Ion is a ton of fun to program, deep but intuitive, and it sounds fucking rad.. the wavs keep their bite even after the filter's cutoff removes almost all but the fundamental.

i just picked up a Novation X-Station 25. it'll fill a purpose for the time being which is allowing me to control a couple of hardware synths and FX and record my brap sessions.
i still want a master controller keyboard... i'm thinking a weighted fatar keyboard.. so maybe a studiologic midi controller or a kickass kurzweil rompler with a ribbon controller.

next purchase will likely be some kind of daw or sequencer/sampler software so i can record my synth wankering.. i'd like something stripped down without a bunch of needless FX and synths included. I'm really only interested in a software sampler and sample editor, software sequencer that can send on multiple midi channels and a program for recording.

after that I'm going to find a fs1r in pristine condition. after that I'll probably look into a PA or maybe studio monitors + a proper audio interface.

  8. Oh yeah, this thing's oscillators are better than any other V/A i've heard, including the virus, which I own and love, and has some killer resonance on all the different filter modules. I'm definitely going to have fun with this fucking thing.
