Both CD’s popped on my doorstep this morning so I thought I'd share my useless mumblings.
Project Pitchfork Continuum Ride
I've been a fan of PP since the very early days of Dhyani (This maybe a good or bad thing depending on your outlook)? Sort of gave up on them a little after the East/West era but got Dream, Tiresias! from iTunes and was surprised how much I enjoyed it.
First thing you notice about Continuum Ride (Ltd) is that the packaging is top notch. What about the music? Starts off pretty good with atmospheric sounds between tracks that reminds me Entities. I still think Peter has one of the best voices in the business. I’m unsure if he is using it to maximum potential like in Entities to IO era? Clean cut production as always and if there is was one word that summed up Continuum Ride it would be “electro”, two words “electro pop”.
I still have mixed feelings about this one! There are some great parts, nice sequences, well-constructed songs yet at the same time something missing. Can’t put my finger on it! Maybe the music sounds a little dimensionally one-toned with dynamics left to Peter’s voice. I don’t know! It’s hard to dislike yet hard to fully recommend. I think this sums up newer PP stuff. If someone said to me which PP album to buy first I’d still go for IO or Entities.
Prometheus Burning – Displacement Disorder
A totally different kettle of fish! Those who “sort of know me” know I don’t like female lead vocals in industrial(ish) music! Why? because most of the time they sound like bloody dead damp squid = shit! That sort of changed when I heard Beyond Repair and Nikki Telladictorian has single-handed changed my view.
Whatever industrial style you want to say Displacement Disorder (DD) is it’s a true masterpiece. Maybe I’m getting fussy in my old age and boring old dance floor industrial just does not rock my boat anymore as I like a bit of experimentation, sound creation ECT. I suppose you will neither love it or hate it. DD is not for the faint hearted, hard to listen to at times but at the same time perhaps the most accessible dance floor PB to date. Get the two disc version and as disc two offers a more experimental side to PB.
I’m going stick my cancer ridden neck out here and say Displacement Disorder is one of the best discs I’ve heard this year and certainly could be contender for release of the year. I like the experimental sound, the unease of what sound I’m going to hear next.
If you like bands such as Acylum you will like Displacement Disorder. Totally recommended. I was just disappointed I did not get one of Nikki’s 60 hand-made dolls! Did they come with pins? Scary! BUY!
