I've been using Maschine for about a year and I really enjoy the uses for live performances and beat production. I was curious if other folks here are into using this NI product?

Our band uses it mainly for sample play back and fx processing of those samples or just improve beat creation during those sets. We are also starting to use it for track building and doing beat slicing/cut and paste breaks/distorted loops and such.

The Automation seems very simple and I think the sequencer is pretty solid (midi clock and triggering is pretty nice as well) but we have yet to try the 1.6 Maschine with VST support.

Any pros or cons using this little guy? For mpc users (like myself) do you find it easy to use or similar beat creation with Maschine?

We chatted about it a while ago. I really like the controller functionality, but I went with Block for the future OSC application. I still have not heard any vids that had the Maschine set up standing out like I thought it would. There are tons of Elektron vids though.

That said. I am listening to your Villian material right now: http://cursedchimera.bandcamp.com/album/dissenter
This is pretty cool. Did you use Maschine on these productions?

I got an offer recently for one and picked it...I will be able to collect it by mid-April...I will mostly use it then for a live project I am getting into together with a live-Didgeridoo player and some african Percussionists....

I've had Maschine for about a year now. As much as I like the product and think NI have done a great job with it, I just can't find a way to get it into my workflow that feels natural. Sometimes I make sequences and then just drag-n-drop them into Live -- but honestly typically I much prefer sequencing my drums direct into my DAW rather than doing a two-step process as is required with things like Maschine that have their own sequencer. The library content is varied and high quality, the fx good.....nothing wrong with this thing, but I'm so dang picky about workflow that it just sorta ends up sitting around..I keep meaning to change that, but it hasn't happened yet.

Partly this is all Ableton Live's fault (in a good way). Live for me is like a giant sampler / beatbox / sequencer, that covers all the ground within the Session View that having an MPC and sequencer would do.

  6. I really wanted Maschine for a while, but honestly for what it is, it's just too prohibitively expensive, and the fact it's essentially a piece of hardware tied to a computer is something I don't like. Think I'm gonna do what Dodd did and save up for an MC909 instead :)

  7. I think I am just going to get an old EMU Command Station. heh All this new stuff is just too expensive and it does too much. I want to keep it simple. Plus I have seen all these command stations that get tweaked and circuit bent. Man they sound sick. Might be just the thing to build some live noise step junk..

well I get it new for 200 bucks for the guy really needs the money for taxes ;-)
@Soillodge: maybe also check out once the Waldorf Rack-Attack...like a Microtonic in hardware...it is still imho pretty expensive...but with a nice pad controller you can make sick stuff.....

  9. Yeah, I saw that they ported that from VST. Very cool. I am mostly looking for tabletop stuff, not rack. But I will consider it if the interface will work with how I want things set up.
