   Over the time that I have been fucking with electronics shit for making sound I have found that there are many combos that are like absolute magic. If you have found one you know exactly what I mean. I'm not gonna stroke my cock too much but I will provide one example in hopes this conversation will continue.

   In that old-ass rusty relic of a song there was a magic combo. It was the Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 run through a Rat distortion pedal. If you listen you will figure it out. There are other recordings I made with this combo and it is one of those that always hits me as something like holy mother of blessed acceleration that shit fucking WORKS!!!!

   So what magic combos have you found lately? It ain't gotta be hardaware - just any two things that go bump in the night and make you want to touch yourself.

   hmmm basically for me any thin sounding kickdrum routed through an SPL Channel One...

   soundcombo-wise....303 through a Mindprint Envoice then through an OTO Biscuit....kicks ass I'd say

   ensoniq mirage....with any sample you put inside it...ANY!!!
   flea market alesis sr-16 with grime on it through kp3 reverb through flea market uher 4200 report monitor...yeah, i'm a junkyard connoisseur :)

   @YADE Yes that seems to me quite badass! The 303 gets nice and fat in the Envoice tube section and then grinded up in the Biscuit. Sweet!

   when i saw this thread title i immediately thought of my proco rat.. it just teamed up with everything and was instantly useable

   that was a cool track, Mike. listening to it again as i type

   now my goto combo is the quad plague bearer + battery 3. i think i'm using the QPB as a multiband distortion of sorts... i'll run a full mix of drums through all four filters, having each one cover a specific frequency range, with each range getting different amounts of distortion.. all of which gets modulated via CV

   @Tsarik; What amused me was the obviousness of Combining Rat with Prophet 600 as they both have the same color and finish with identical size and type of knob. Like the RAT was made to go with the P600 LOL!

   hmmm Plague Bearer must be a real killer....

   @Hollowman: funny enough only the Envoice's Tube Section goes from our equipment imho well with the 303.....the much more expensive MEC-1A or the Origin STT-1 make the sound "nice"...but not "roaar".....if you know what I mean *G*

   @Tsarik; There are many similarities between the 5 and 600. The 600 is considered a stripped-down, budget version of the 5. It is a nice synth though and I miss the one I had.
   That Plague bearer sounds awesome btw! I need to check it out some more when I have time.

   @YADE; I know and love the "roar". Lately I have been experimenting with my ART ProMPA II which I swapped tubes for old used 1960s tubes I scavenged from a military intercom system. My signature "Roaring Casio" was the sound of running my CZ-1 through a homemade Field Effect Transistor Overdrive box I built. But now I am able to replicate this sound with the ProMPA. I want to set it up for stereo in my next experiment. I'll split the CZ-1 output into both MPA preamp inputs and then pan the preamp outputs for L&R. Before I would track the CZ-1 parts twice and pan the tracks apart which was time consuming compared to being able to record stereo "roars".

   That is another combo I enjoy. Casio's Phase Distortion synthesis through tube overdrive. It is one of those things I find to be magical. The day I demoed the CZ-1 on an Egnator tube head was just orgasmic for me LOL!

    i've had great luck running anything at all thru synths with an 'Aux In'. this is why i keep my Korg MS2000R around. here's a loop from the last album of my Rhodes into it.

    i think you can make damn near anything sound great with a Biscuit. a lil extra drive never hurts.

    for my mixes i think the biggest "magic" for me was learning how to control hum & hiss in my recording environment & wrapping my head around the fundamentals of gain staging. it all seemed very mysterious when i first started.
