I think this looks pretty darned cool. It's got all the stuff I would have wanted from the Monotron in the first place, and apparently it's gonna be retailing for less than £200.

What's everyone else's opinion on this?

i'm definitely getting one. gonna be a fun thing to play with when away from my gear

  4. I'm emphatically NOT an analogue zealot or anything of the sort, but it does look like an exceptionally fun little gizmo to play with. I bet it'd be absolutely sick hooked up to an Oto Biscuit.

  6. @ Metaball - Holy shit that DOES look awesome. Those sensor clips are a fantastic idea. I wonder if it's possible to edit the sounds on that?

indeed, they should build a set into a pair of brass knuckles & you could get old school karate sounds when you punch people in the face.

whoa...fuck monotribe....that wavedrum mini is AWESOME!!! looks great for some oldschool EBM chops, i liked the original wavedrum, and almost bought it when it was on some discount for 300 euros, and if this thing is lower in price than a decent pad controller, i will buy it.
on the monotribe, if only the drums (which are analog as well, if i got the confused german booth guy correctly) were editable and there were sub outputs (even through hacks) it would have been great

  9. Yeah the output is crappy again, this time a stereo 1/4 jack. But for making wrecked noise this thing will definitely suffice. Like someone mentioned, running the thing though a Biscuit or a Bitrman would be really fucking amazing. The Monotron through my Noise Swash is just sick. I can imagine what thing thing will be like. The perfect companion to the LBB [Flower Electronics] unit.

I own a Monotron and love it. The minitribe is perfect for some r&n stuff.

Monotribe is also a rad filter so rather than running it through something you can run something through it, say Casio sampler. I'm kinda looking forward this thing, because playing SK-1 stopped being especially fun lately, and with Monotribe it should be a breath of fresh air... Not to mention that it is a perfect station for delivering the Suicide-like suspense.

Wavedrum is also cool, and if it weren't for AKAI pad-controller already being a part of my setup, I would consider purchasing it.

  12. It's out! The new videos sound cool. I am going to try to order one this weekend. Ity kinda sucks that you cannot modify the drum sounds unless you crack the case open and mess with the board. However with this applications I have in mind, just using this thing to drive mass effects. It does not really matter that I cannot change the drum sounds. The synth itself is awesome.

Then I need to get another FX box like the Biscuit or the LBB and my live open mic set-up is on :D

i was thinking about dumping the D4 & snagging one of those roland sampler thingys. then i wired up the electronic drumkit to the OTO & forgot all about it. the Biscuit makes any shitty drum bank sound awesome.

  14. i was thinking a monotribe that was modded to have 4 individual outs would be nice to partner with the quad plague bearer + 4 really fast VCAs

  15. That would be really cool. I am curious to see what people are going to do with this thing. A lot of neat things were done with the Monotron.

I ordered it. Should be here by Wed/Thur :)

  18. I like the look of the monotribe, but I've never tried the monotron. Kind of looks like a stylophone with a knob that goes whooosh. I've been desperate for an analog noise making monster since I sold my mam adx-1. So, I've been searching around and found this beast:

    http://m.matrixsynth.com/2010/09/trax-rs-1-rota-synth-analogue-sequencer.html

Trax RS-1, has anyone had any experience with this machine? The videos are pretty terrible, but it looks like it has potential to make some serious eardrum soup.

  19. The Monotrons downfall was the size. It does not sound small though. It is a beast, if you check my soundcloud you will hear in action. You just have to check the descriptions, I always put what I use. My only real gripe is that it is cheaply put together. Sometimes I have to press down on it so it will use the outputs instead of the little speaker. Great noise tool, lean something on it and make a whole drone album with little effort.

I have been using the MonoTribe quite a bit in new material. I found that the analog sequencer is authentic, it drifts a bit and when you use it with other more accurate machines you need to constantly adjust or edit it afterwards. The new synth version though-incredible. You can emulate some awesome PW and FM sounds using the LFO.You can get some really meaty sounds out of it all around, even more expressive than the Monotron. Plus it is built like a mini-tank. Nice solid pots and switches. Playing it live next to another effects unit just feel so right.

This RS-1 looks cool. But what are the specs? I could not find anything online except analog sequencer and real analog monophonic synth-whatever that means really. Are there a lot of fake analog monophonic synths out there?

There are lots of these little kits and prototype synths out there. The question you have to ask is where they got the filter circuit design from. That makes a big difference on how well it will sound.

  20. well, there is the e-mail address!

    traxcontrols@ntlworld.com

    I'll mail them now,

'I'm interested in your product, but I don't want to buy it if it is of poor quality, so can I have a spec sheet please? And you didn't just make this out of a gakken, did you?'

I'll let you know the results!
