It's a law in Quebec (Montreal's province) that a venue that sell alcohol needs to shutdown at 3:00am. Some smaller places there let you order your last drink at 3:00am and then may ask you to drink it at a table near the door. The only exception was for New Year Eve 2000 when bars exceptionally closed like around 5:00-6:00, but I only vaguely remember that night. ;-)

After-hours clubs and rave can close later, but they cannot sell alcohol.

  3. wow! i guess i did not leave to early to the end. i know on thursday leather strip took the stage for 50 minutes starting at 1:15 am. i was beat by the time that set was done. i thought the curfew would be 3:30am, but that drinking curfew is generous compared to toronto where it is 2am with exception to extended hours registration...

montreal has always been a party town compared to toronto with their leant regulations!

    That's insane :S
And I thought Denmark's laws on that stuff were rather strict compared to the rest of the world.
