Done good michael.
true fact: Pictureplane coined the term "witch house".
so yeah, he is filth.
The new album is really good though. Sloppy programming and raw production. Somehow the shit all comes together neatly.

^yeha I didn't mind the actual song. just the clip was vile.
@Cult- hipster music is just really good stuff that very few people know about. So technically, everyone on this forum is a hipster of some sort. If you just follow trends and listen to the pop music that everyone else listens to you. You are not a hipster.
So to be frank, why would you not want to be a hipster? When I went to high school, they called us "mods", or "goths". It was exactly the same thing. Everyone was listening to Wilson Phillips or Richard Marx and my crew were jamming to Nitzer Ebb and the Tear Garden. They made fun of our skinny pants too. What I don't understand is that cowboys and people that listen to country also wear skinny pants AND stupid hats. So why all the hate on hipster jeans? You know what I hate. People that wear what Macy's and Kenneth Cole tell them to wear. Idiots. You're paying top dollar for shitty clothes made in China or Taiwan. People are dumb. :P

speaking of mods...My Dad was in a mod revival band. They actually have some cool tracks.
but yeah agree pretty much mostly
Just read http://hipsterrunoff.com/ and listen to Animal Collective

See, from my point of view at least it really feels like entirely the other way around. To me it mostly feels like the same stuff that highbrow art-student fashion rags like The Face have been bandying around since the early 90s, filtered through American Apparel with a huge predisposition for irony. Hipsterism or whatever you want to call it is absolutely a trend. As always, this article kind of sums up my antipathy towards it best http://www.adbusters.org/magazine/79/hipster.html
I am not talking about the modern equivalent of the sub-culture that has been going around since the 1940's [maybe earlier] Or even the clothing. Retro is always in some type of trend. Everyone loves the "good-old days".
I am talking specifically the music. Hipster music can be anything really. It defies genres and styles. It is just indie music that very few people know about until it gets "discovered", by popular media outlets. That's why Pitchfork hits everything from modern jazz to synthpop to black metal. Not all of it is actually good, I did take some liberties with that statement. But all of it has an audience that is looking for it and this modern hipster sub-culture has found a way to tie it all together. Not to mention information technology and the P word.
See, I cannot point the finger and dislike anything. Considering my own sub-culture has turned into a mish mash of other sub-cultures and all of our music now draws heavily from more popular forms of music. You know, glass houses and all of that. I mean seriously, we are into putting screamo into trance based angry dance music and throwing dub-step and tech-house implements in just to spice it up. I love it really, but we don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to disliking or criticizing any other sub-culture. We are just as fucking retarded, so just go with it. Every quote cited in that article, I have heard from people at an "industrial", club.

Do some research and read articles about punk music from back in the day. You will see the same assumptions. People thought they had nothing to say. They were just the dregs of a society ruined by inconsistencies. The problem with people is that they have to put things into a box that makes sense. they have to judge things, categorize them. Everything has to have some personal relevance of it is deemed practical garbage.
You have to step outside of yourself and then view it again. The motivations, the reasoning. This is not apathy and a confused generation with no ideals. This is DIY society given the power and technology to build an infrastructure. I think it is fascinating. Also they have found some really great music.

@soillodge : completely with you one that one, that article was written by a douchebag that had nothing to say himself, even the title is a poor ripoff, it's so easy to critisize something you personnally dont like with vapid quotes that could easily fit any genre, especially the coming of grunge-punk era.
Really, who in this day of age is bringing something really new, talented, thats relevant and original. Clothing, music, movies, it just entertainment, yeah for some, it may be a more, but for most, it's passing time and having "fun".
If someone who just come out an say, I dont like it, not my thing, I had respect, but making this whole critique thing on kids and adolescent, being just that, and resulting in nothing relevant, just a pissed off dude that got no sex in a while, probably his girlfriend left him for a hipster that was his big revenge.
Wait we talking underground "indie", somewhat unknown but up and coming indie, or "even my parents saw them at a big festival" indie?
I mean shoot...
Here's all the popular stuff they play at 'indie' clubs I go to

THIS is what most hipsters listen to, hardly any of it is underground.
Though thanks to the magic of youtube, blogs, etc even bedroom acts started last week in a flat in brooklyn now have huge buzz. Work ten years in the EBM scene doing shows and releases, and you still wont get near the buzz or popularity of getting praised on an indie blog.
I have not seen any of that shit on the hipster blogs for a LONG time. That's all old stuff. What terrible dated retro clubs are you going to?
Yes, that was sarcasm :P

Mechapop: only 3 of your videos are playing. The rest is country restricted (Germany). What does it tell us? It tells that most of the videos you posted are major company driven or some indies that can´t see the future. I don´t even want to use my proxy shit for this!
MNDR. i saw them open for Massive Attack last year & the chick wouldn't shutup about "ghost riding the whip".

To be completely fair-the stuff Cory posted "used" to be hipster music. You do not hear much hype about those bands now. Because that was hipters do. Grasp on to soemthing early one, ride it out till everyone knows about it, and then say the bands sold out or changed and they don't follow them anymore..lol
Like right now this band The Weeknd is all the rage. I don't care for it really. Sounds like typical RnB soft jams to me.
Then I have heard some hype about this band The Dirty Grand

And Grimes or GЯIMΞS is really getting a ton of hype. Riding on the recent waves of Austra [and Zola Jesus before that] people really love these obscure, abstract electro with awkward vocals.
