issue with Virus TI Arps

  1. I almost never use the arpeggiator on the TI, so this isn't a huge problem, but it showed up again the other day and I figured I should figure out why it's happening. I am using a TI Snow via USB in Cubase 5 (legit) and I'll program a sound and turn the arp on and it will sound fine. Now, if i close out of the project and come back to it, the arp is all fucked up, like it only plays random steps. It does not correct itself even if I switch the type/direction or pattern or any other arp setting (including turning the arp off and back on). I'm pretty sure I have the latest virus OS (3.something). Any thoughts / similar experiences? Like I said, I almost never use the arp, and if I need to arpeggiate a sound I can always use the MIDI arp plugin in cubase...

  2. Can you describe the problem a little more in depth? Like type of arp (up, down, chord, octaves etc and what you midi is like). Maybe its the actual type of arp, some are chords and would sound different maybe with midi? Just guessing. Also, with my TI I leave a measure of blank space in the midi timeline before my actual midi notes start to allow it to get going I guess you would say cause if I don't it won't play the first note. You can do this other ways like with a blank midi note with no velocity etc but thats just the way I do it.

Maybe it has something to do with the bpm of the patch itself as well. Try saving the arp patch to the ram bank with a bpm that matches the project itself. I'm betting Modulate or Suicide Commando can help with some ideas a well. Also try the Virus forums if you havent already.

I have no idea on that one. Tbh I never use arps either.

I agree with Eric, I'll leave the first bar empty to let it get it's MIDI sync up and running properly.

One thing that might help, and it's a complete bodge, but save the Patch as a snapshot in Cubase and reload it. See if that cures it. Or flush the original patch by loading something else and reloading the original.

I'm actually thinking this is a bug with either Cubase or the TI controller VST so try dropping the guys at Access a line, they are normally very good with things like this.

  4. on the official virus messageboard there is a thread about cubase5 interacting with the virus.

and yeha man, the access people are way fast for customer support, i couldnt beleive it.

  5. i do the same thing Eric said there too, i press a key, any key at the beginning, just to get the virus, 'going' sorta. so its in time.

Ive had a similar issue with the same setup, next time it happens try changing the sample rate in the project up or down, then back to the original setting, it seems to reset the virus after it gets all wacky.

I've noticed the Virus can be funny with sample rates too. Usually I'll just turn it off and on at the mains (a soft on/off doesn't work) and close and re-open Cubase.
