All those years we took our freedoms for granted. Now it is biting us in the ass. Consumed by our own consumerism. How ironic.

the section below has been tweaked a few times since this draft. "citizen excluding" language is still in there but muddled up with some verbage about "covered persons" & with the indefinite detainment there's no criteria for proving you are/aren't a terrorist. anybody have links to more recent versions?
SEC. 1032. REQUIREMENT FOR MILITARY CUSTODY. (b) Applicability to United States Citizens and Lawful Resident Aliens-
(1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to citizens of the United States.
(2) LAWFUL RESIDENT ALIENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to a lawful resident alien of the United States on the basis of conduct taking place within the United States, except to the extent permitted by the Constitution of the United States.

Obama is on a 21 day Hawaii vacation costing over 7 million dollars so you think him and all his crew care about whether or not you're detained as an enemy combatant?

I'm curious what the media reports in other countries (if any) on this subject have been like??? It wouldn't surprise me if people out of the country knew more about it than people who lived in the country.

The new legislation Obama passed finished what the Patriot Act (and MANY other pieces of legislation) started: signing our rights away. And in case we are not all on the same page here, GW Bush certainly didn't claim to be a Liberal and Obama certainly does not claim to be a Conservative. So why would they be doing the same kind of things? Because THERE ARE NO TWO SIDES. I wish people would stop feeding into the propaganda about right and left and just LISTEN to what is really going on. I'm so tired of hearing right-wing, left-wing. There are no two sides. They all want the same thing: MORE POWER. These people are GLOBALISTS and they don't give a shit what you think of their agenda. Your ability to protest it is gone and your time to speak up is over. I think people really need to wake up and realize that. I wish they had a long time ago, because now it is just about too late.

Well said Sin, I never voted and never will, its always funny watching people and politics, and even more funny to see them believe in all this masquerade.
When you grow up, at one point you stop believing in santa claus (if you ever did), or walt disney. How can an adult believe or put any credibility in this theatrical farce is beyong me.

And what have you "oh so brave and well informed individuals" done against all this so far besides showering us with your unique vision and political wisdom on a soon-to-be extinct forum?
How many congressmen have you written to? How many petitions have you started or signed? How many protests have you started or participated? Hm?

@Mind: Thanks, man. Totally agree with you. It boggles my mind that they can see the proof of what is going on in front of them and they just still deny it. I can't understand it. I really can't.
@dodd: Dude, the time for that is LONG passed. The majority of Americans disagreed with the healthcare "reform" and there were THOUSANDS of petitions, protests and letters created about it. Government shoved it through anyway. They don't care. What part of "Our power to stand up against it has been taken away" do you not understand? The Patriot Act made it so that you can be classified as a domestic terrorist for participating in a sit-in - a sit-in! the most peaceful form of protest there is, and yes it DOES say that in the legislature - and Obama's newly passed legislature makes it so that you could be detained indefinitely with no trial or maybe even killed once you have been classified as such. The war is on, people. Wake up.
So I don't bother with trying to reform the government. It's too late. The only hope there really is lies in trying to wake people up and really, it's too late for that too. I have been trying to educate people for years. Nobody wants to listen. Now the police are pepper-spraying people for absolutely no reason in front of the entire world and the US Military is raiding private businesses. It's only going to get worse and now there is nothing anyone can do.

@dodd
Funny I was going to answer but reading Sins response, she put it perfectly, still naive to think any of those would affect world politics.
The protesting mesures you mentioned will work on small local issues (for example, make someone resing because of child molestation or disposing of polluting subtances in a river), but for world economics, globalist, world banking systems, bla bla bla, the mesures you mention is a complete joke.

"Wake up folks. It's too late!" isn't a massively coherent message to pitch though, is it?

I wish I had something better to say. I wish there WAS something we could do about it but the people behind this have been working on it for YEARS and they have pretty much sealed all the exits, as it were. That's why it's not a message, exactly. Preaching a message (and I appreciate you not using that word, lol) would be trying to effect change (at least in my opinion). I'm not trying to enact any change because it's already too late. I'm just telling it as I see it. It may be too late to do anything about it but that is no excuse for ignorance, dude. You know what I'm saying?
If there actually WAS something we could do about it - and it was a sound plan of action with very specific goals and objectives - I would be behind that and would for sure spread that message, though.

It seems to me that throwing-up your arms saying it's all over and nothing can be done is as dangerous as the people that don't pay attention to what our leaders are doing while putting all faith in their decisions. The Revolutionary War and Civil War is huge reflection of just how much civilians are willing to fight for their independence and civil rights. The only problem is people have gotten lazy and need some extra kicks in the ass before it happens.

Scumbag US
Sees police pepper spray people for no reason
Makes a humorous meme about it and does nothing else
I swear, if the US could export apathy, our treasury would be without end.

Oh, I haven't thrown my arms up yet. It's getting close though, because I am not sure what more needs to happen before the "mainstream public" sees what's going on. If there was an effort I could get behind, I certainly would. And would encourage others to do so as well, regardless if I privately thought it was hopeless or not. Because you never know. Just because the right to do something has been taken away does not mean it cannot be taken back. As you said, we have done it before. And THAT is why I have not totally given up hope. When I am saying it's too late, I mean that it's too late to accomplish things through the "proper channels" anymore, as some are suggesting.

@soillodge
The meme was another form of protest in my opinion. It shows how ridiculous and over the top the act was. At least those people are trying to make a difference. I admit the whole Occupy movement is not the most organized effort but it shows awareness and rebellion of how fucked up our government and law enforcement is.All i know is i'm voting for Ron Paul in 2012. That man has alot of good ideas and solutions that i agree with. I realize my vote probably won't amount to jack squat in the grand scheme of it all but i need something to believe in so that i can lull myself to sleep at night.

@ EBM..... I'm behind you on Ron Paul. You know he's good when Fox network doesn't like him.
"At least those people are trying to make a difference. I admit the whole Occupy movement is not the most organized effort but it shows awareness and rebellion of how fucked up our government and law enforcement is.".... I agree. :)
@ Sin... I fully understand where you are coming from now. At least you aren't one of the millions ignoring the problem.
