@ Dmyer and Krat - Because I maintain that most dubstep is still total garbage, being more akin to drum'n'bass with all the fun and inventiveness removed, absolutely no sense of good rhythm or structure, and just, well, having no point to itself at all.
It was kind of interesting when Mary Anne Hobbs first popularized it as somewhat distinct from all the generic bass music coming out of London at the time, but then you got a thousand other producers jumping on the bandwagon and being like "HAY GUYZ CHECK THIS OUT. I'M WRITING DUBSTEP WHICH IS COOL AND EDGY AND NOT FOR THE SHEEPLE" and all you got was a halftime rhythm and that typical wobble bassline. Nice novelty, no substance.
This stuff like Broken Note really feels like the beginning of dubstep really finding its feet and trying out new and interesting things.
