Anybody else got any recommendations for ridiculously nasty, evil, glitched-out dubstep in this vein?

basically anything from the ad noiseam label - but specifically grab hecq 'sura',
NIVEAU ZERO, enduser and definitely broken note as you already found.
This kinda dubstep is kicking the shit out of industrial for intensity at the moment IMO.

That's two votes already for hecq. I'm going to have pick up something by them. Hymen Records doesn't disappoint either.

This particular style of dubstep really intrigues me too, Rogue. Digging the Noisia song you posted.

  9. One thing I noticed about this kind of music is whilst I dig a lot of the sounds and textures theres like this little voice in the back of my mind saying; ok when is the 4 on the floor part gonna kick in? and of course it never does...

  10. NumberNin6, Hecq (keep in mind only his Sura release is dubstep), Takomo(only a few of theirs are dubstep but i really dig em), Niveau Zero vs Matta - 'Venom', Funckarma - 'Daltz Fango', Scorn (newish)

Broken Note - Crux is a fucking killer

I have 2 LPs from HECQ, they were cool but I much preferred his remix work for other bands. I had no idea that he has gone in some mutant dubstep direction. This shit is amazing. The video is fucking great too.

This is kicking the shit out of industrial dance music. I think I need to jump ship..heh

michael, that is an AWESOME song and video!

The opening 57 seconds of the song is exactly the type of stuff that sends chills down my back.

Like soillodge, I also prefer HECQ's remix work. Although, this 'Spheres Of Fury' track is really cool. Nice vid as well.

There were already two industrial dubstep songs on the "Babylon" album of tPROE, and there is also one on the upcoming album. What took you guys so long? I have been listening to this stuff for 5 years now (ever since Rephlex released the "Grime" compilation albums), and now you all find out. Thop listening to that Skinny puppy and FLA crap, and smell the coffee! Of which i just made a whole lot and i am gonna drink it all. :D

So krat, what will we all be catching up with in 5 years time, O great prophet?

  18. @ Dmyer and Krat - Because I maintain that most dubstep is still total garbage, being more akin to drum'n'bass with all the fun and inventiveness removed, absolutely no sense of good rhythm or structure, and just, well, having no point to itself at all.

It was kind of interesting when Mary Anne Hobbs first popularized it as somewhat distinct from all the generic bass music coming out of London at the time, but then you got a thousand other producers jumping on the bandwagon and being like "HAY GUYZ CHECK THIS OUT. I'M WRITING DUBSTEP WHICH IS COOL AND EDGY AND NOT FOR THE SHEEPLE" and all you got was a halftime rhythm and that typical wobble bassline. Nice novelty, no substance.

This stuff like Broken Note really feels like the beginning of dubstep really finding its feet and trying out new and interesting things.

I like a lot of dubstep but I mostly get mixes off the internet so I'm awful with actually naming tracks/artists (and I can't access YouTube here so no links).

I'm mostly a fan of the eerie, sparser acts -Burial, Pinch/Moving Ninja's 'False Flag', the Kode9 remix of 'Ghost Town'.

There's a lot of pish, though. Still, there's a lot of pish in most music.

  20. haven't heard much I enjoyed beyond a scant handful of tracks (as you will find in every genre). maybe it'll get better for me in the future;]
