Hi,
I own quite a lot of vst's (Z3TA+, Sytrus, Reaktor, Korg Digital&Analogue editions, Vanguard, Sawer,...) but I am impresed with this synth that is now sold with Dimension Pro for 99$. What is your opinion? Worth the price?
Thanks

Rapture is absolute fucking bollocks. One of the most poorly-designed synths I've had the misfortune of purchasing, from that wonderful time when the amount of stacked voices was paramount (OMFG over 50-voice supersaw fapfapfap), and nothing else mattered. Avoid like the plague.
If you want similar functionality, but in an actual usable interface, and with sound-mangling possibilities far beyond the reach of Rapture, get Alchemy by Camel Audio.
I've heard some demos and it sounds pretty harsh, not the typical trance/dance synth. I want a sound similar to the Waldorf Microwave. Now it costs "only" 99$ with Dimension Pro (which I am not that interested but maybe it's nice to have a Rompler).
Meh. $99 is alright I suppose, but I just genuinely think it's a piss-poor synth. It's a cunt to program and the results are really unsatisfying. Of course your results may vary but as far as I'm aware, there's a demo version available, soprobably worth playing around with that. Exercise caution at the very least.
I think you'd be better off with N.I. Massive.
I absolutely hate how Rapture has you program envelopes.
Rogue Process' intense hatred for Rapture is truly beyond me. There's some crappy software instruments out there, but Rapture is hardly one of them if you ask me. IMO, it has an excellent sound quality, and provides all sorts of great rhythm-oriented sound-creation thanks to the extensive sequencing options. The multilpe elements allow for very dense layering of sounds, each with it's own FX chain and extensive modulation capabilities. It's a loaded synth. For 99 bucks (and WITH dimension pro) it's an absolute steal.
You should be able to demo it. The first bank of presets really show off what it can do, be sure to check out the "sequences" as they show off the power of the numerous step sequencers used as modulation sources / arpegiators.
That said, Rogue Process and I are on the same page that Camel Audio's Alchemy is a mind-blowingly great synth if you're into deep sound design. However, if you're into presets, strictly speaking about presets I think Rapture's are a lot more impressive; Alchemy's are rather cheesey and oddly underwhelming. But as a from-scratch programming beast Alchemy wins for sure. It's in a class of it's own right now and I'm using it more and more these days because it's fun as hell and can, really, do just about everything since it works as both a VA synth and, better yet, a sample-import synth.
As for Massive...I much prefer Rapture over Massive. The latter has a cold, cold sound to my ears. Good GUI and I know everyone loves it, but I just can't get it to sound rich for my tastes. It's always very digital and thin. But to each their own ;)

reFX Nexus2 sounds incredible...
Well, I just happen to have gear/a setup that favours a synth like Massive over one like Rapture. I'm largely hardware based, essentially. I recommended Massive because he mentioned the words "Waldorf Microwave".
I don't know enough about Rapture to get into it, but I did hate programming the envelopes. I do agree that it's -not- simply a Supersaw machine. Hell, if anything, I think Rapture's a much better synth than Vanguard.
@ Eric - Dude, Nexus is a ROMpler. A very slick one for sure, but still...
I bought the rapture sometime ago. I like it. It has some nice deep bass'es, interesting sequences as well. Tho I do kinda agree that it can be a bitch to program from scrach. The quality tho is quite allright in my opinion tho.
The guy has Reaktor, he really doesn't need anything else.

for 99$ I would take it..
Nexus is imho much more poorly designed...ever tried to automate an FX parameter on this thing? won't work....but nice for presetting...
maybe if you are into Waldorf Sounds give Largo a try....
Largo seems to be very poorly written. It takes up ALOT of CPU afaik.
@Kr-lik....never tried it out....but honestly..is CPU power in times of I3-I7 really still an issue? I mean even with a hardcore project with around 50-60 tracks I never got over 75% to all 4 cores of my system...
..........I think I know what you want.

This.
This kicks ass.
Oh damn! That is like the synth version of tl;dr!

Heh, seriously, Michael, Gladiator's my favourite synth I own these days that isn't some fuck off analog deal. It's a Virus and a Waldorf rolled into one. Someone like you would -love- what you can do with the oscillators.
I'll check it out when I have time. Right now I am having fun with hardware stuff :P

At last I didn't spend 99$ on Rapture. to be honest, I am flooded with vsti's. I have bought a fair amount of comercial ones and I also use free ones (that sometimes are on a par with comercial offers). Rapture is not going to save me from my total lack of inspiration to finish a track. I am spoilt for choice. Thanks everyone for giving their opinions.
