So I'm curious, how do you all listen to your music?

    -------------

    At home:

iPod (or other mp3 player), computer (mp3 or wav), or CD?

If computer, what software do you use (iTunes, Winamp, etc.)?

Do you have good speakers / monitors?

Do you use any EQ settings or Bass / Loudness boost?

    -------------

    At work:

    iPod, computer, or CD?

    Do you use headphones?

Do you use any EQ settings or Bass / Loudness boost?

    -------------

    In the car:

    iPod or CD?

    Do you have good speakers?

Do you use any EQ settings or Bass / Loudness boost?

    -------------

    My answers:

I'm working at home on the computer during the day, so I listen to most of my collection ripped to highest quality VBR mp3s on iTunes. The computer is in my studio so I have it hooked up to some good monitors. I usually use the basic 'electronic' eq setting on iTunes, unless it's dark ambient or metal or something like that, then I just turn the eq off.

In the car I usually use my iPod, no eq on either it or the car stereo, but I don't have great speakers - they can't handle too much bass.

ON CD here...PIONEER RECEIVER, AMP, with 30"speakers that kick ass and have superb bass and high end...SONY CD PLAYER/RECORDER.....never needed an ipod here...

  3. In the studio: CDs ripped to VBR MP3s, played with Winamp through a MOTU Ultralite on Dynaudio monitors. No EQing.

In the living room: Same VBR MP3s streamed through Xbox Media Center to a pair of Alesis monitors and a pair of Advent Loudspeakers. Some basic bass/treble EQing, nothing fancy.

Car: Whenever I rent a car (once a month or so) it's usually VBR MP3s through a Zune and a line-in jack. I EQ the speakers best I can, but usually it sucks.

At home - on cd or vinyl. Speakers upstairs are quite good, living room speakers are decent. Sometimes on the computer, windows media player, very good speakers.

At work - cd, on computer using Windows Media Player and my speakers are junky and I really ought to replace them.

In car - cd, and the speakers are good, but there's a loose wire somewhere, so that a bump will momentarily knock out a speaker.

Home upstairs: CD's or 256k mp3's from computer through tannoy 6.5" studio monitors

Home downstairs (infrequently) : MP3's from xbox through Mirage nansat system (no midrange, but otherwise ok)

Car: I listen here the most. MP3 albums burned to CD's. If I had an ipod, i'd use that. Sound quality is irrelavant because MX-5's are so elemental. They had the highest cabin noise level of any car released the year I bought it. I'm lucky I can hear anything over the wind, road, engine, and tire noise. I love it anyway (or maybe because of...)

At work: mp3's from computer through Sennheiser HD555 headphones.

At home I have four speaker cabinets with 12" subs, mids and tweets. These speakers are powered by an amplifier/receiver. The amp has several inputs, so everything gets routed through there. I usually play some music that I am familiar with before I start working on my own tracks, so that I know everything is leveled.
In the car I play my zune through the stock system. At work I play my zune through headphones.
As far as EQ, I am always turning down the mid's, and turning up the treble and bass.

  11. I listen to music about 90% in my car (always cd). Volvo makes complete shiite speakers and I am about to ditch the car for that reason alone. My next car will be largely picked because of how crisp the sound system is and how much I can push it before it starts getting muddy.

At work I listen to Live365 stations. Sound quality leaves a lot to be desired but I listen to the low-bit punk stations usually so it doesn't matter.

My car has an iPOD interface that works very well. I burn all my CD/Vinyl/Cass to MP3 and listen in the car. I don't like to use my CD because I want to keep them in great condition. Everything in my iPOD I own the original besides a few albums downloaded legally on Itunes.

I wish I could blast a home system, but I can't so it is in storage.

CDs, on my big(ish) stereo or through my monitoring head phones.

iPod for on the bus, same headphones

i've realised recently that if i'm going to seriously enjoy a song/album at home then i always to listen to it in the dark. i hopt that helps with your survey.

At home: Windows Media Player (I hate itunes with a passion!) either through the optical output to my sound system (2 speaker Sony micro hifi thingy) or phono to my 2.1 Logitech PC speakers. No bass enhancement in the software, because the sub does all the work.

Everywhere else: ipod shuffle (because I need my player to be able to scrobble to Last.fm) and Sennheisser headphones. Personally I prefer Sony music players and their (now extinct) Atrac 3-plus encoding, but I'm stuck with AAC for the ipod.

nothing beats the old school stereo systems with big ole fat speakers and a record player and CD player as separate components...they beat all this new trendy shit that has everyone by the balls....as apple and the other lamesters laugh their way to the bank cashing in off all these trends..for once I wish a "new trend" would fucking fail...
was expecting so much from Y2K and I was let down.
