AGH, and there goes side-line refreshing and taking out my message once again!
hahaha, folks always take notice when I try to sell things! No worries, I don't mind explaining.
I've spent a lot of time recording and patching my modular over the last year and the reason why I'm selling this stuff is mainly because of redundancy and personal preference, and really has little to do with the quality or sound of the modules themselves. I'm trimming my rig down a fair bit, since I don't tend to have super complex multi-layer patches running. I like to get sounds, integrate them with my software setup (via silent way, as well as processing soft synths or using them as carriers) and record them, rather than trying to flesh out full musical ideas on the modular. I work a lot better that way.
Regarding the AFG: I've found that I get my analog osc joy out of the Cwejman VCO-6 the most, and it has a much smaller footprint. The Saw and Square/pulse waves are very similar sounding to the AFGs (just a bit sharper), but the I like the sine wave a lot more on the VCO-6. I also like the FM implementation a lot more on the cwejman, its a lot more precise and razor sharp. I was using the cwejman MMF-1 mainly as a sinewave osc for FM, but I'm selling that as well. I also prefer the way the VCO-6 syncs. The AFG requires quite a high voltage in to the sync in, and I could never get it syncing the way I want with anything other than another AFG (which I used to have!). The harmonic animation section of the AFG is really great and completely unique, but I've recorded and sampled more of that than I'll ever really need (great for drones) to really keep the module around. So mainly its just a size (and power consumption) issue, and personal preference. Still an awesome o/c.
Regarding the Maths: I already have one! Amazing module, probably the most useful in the eurorack format. Since I started integrating the modular more, i've found that one of my maths modules tends to sit idle. I get a lot of CV functionality out of silent way, and like I had mentioned, I usually don't have a ton of multilayered stuff goin on. Great module, I'd highly recommend it. This one has sold already though!
Regarding the QMMG: Great module, but I just don't use it to its potential. It also has a large footprint. I run 1 maybe 2 channels off it tops. Makenoise just announced a dual lowpass gate / vca / mixer module that is 1/3rd the size! So i'll probably jump on that, or grab a wiard borg 2 filter to satisfy my vactrol filter tendencies. I was attracted to this module because of the 'buchla-esque' things I was hearing from it. It can definitely do those things (very well I might add), but I really haven't found away to integrate those sounds to my music (despite recording hours and hours of buchla bongos and drones). I always get a cool sounding buchla patch going, but that's usually where it stops. I'm pretty utilitarian when it comes to my sound usage hahaha. The QMMG is pending.
So yeah, these are all great modules, and I'd recommend them to anyone going for those types of sounds (the Maths module should be in every rack). But I'm streamlining stuff now that I know what I really like and where I want to take my modular.
I also have the Livewire Frequensteiner… that thing is my favourite filter!
My plans are to get in to a bit more Cwejman, and a few other things. But i'm interested in keeping a 6u setup.
I hope that helps!
