as usual I'm diving into the deep end here...

but I was listening the 8-bit artist Dubmood and now really want to explore some 8-bit textures. Not plug-ins though, I have a couple of those and they are alright, but I would really like to use a proper game console just for the hands on feeling.

I was thinking maybe if there was a cartridge for the gameboy that would be good, because gameboys have the best sound i recon. And maybe I'm pushing it a bit, but if there was some way to get a gameboy to recieve MIDI and act as a synth, that would be fantastic.

for reference, I love the heavy bass in this track. The high blips are nice to, but that bass is great.

  3. you can buy a cartridge for the original NES that has MIDI and lets you use the soundchip in the NES to make sounds. i was thinking of doing chiptune a couple years back and thats what I would have gotten.

there are a couple things for the gameboy. i think LSDJ is the one a lot of chiptune guys use. it's been a while since i've looked into it so my memory is rusty

there is also the elektron sidstation if you were looking for C64 sounds
