    I love organs, dearly.

is there a way to attain a very realistic organ sound with a VST or physical unit of some sort?

i would like to use it with my previously mentioned hypothetical keytar, and then overdrive it.

like Jon Lord does at about 3 minutes in to that video.

and I don't want any of that fast cheesy chorus, I like the arcaic organic rumble of the bass tones.

well, beside original hammonds i never listened to anything that really could reach the sound of it. but i'm using the B4 from Native Instruments if it's about 'emulating' a hammond or vermona. the clicks and the punch sound similiar to an original - needless to say that it's capable of many more interesting sounds including fat basses and warm, weird pads. plus it includes a speaker emulation as well as a tube overdrive. at my opinion, its overdrive sounds astonishing - i like to use it as an effect plugin to give cold(er) vst's or real drumrecordings more 'substance', noise and a reasonable analogue touch. even vocals sound fantastic after they'd been processed by it. i think you won't regret to give it a try.

the origin after update to 1.1 has a tonewheel generator and some leslie emulator,....sounds pretty cool though

or what about a "real" hammond?

God, i'd love a hammond, but i want to be able to trigger the sound with MIDI.

I know that's just awful, and someday I will buy a Hammond, but for practicality's sake...

EDIT: Just saw the link, it has MIDI? Doesn't that mean its not a proper organ, or am I missing the point of organs?

what is a proper Organ? a Hammond is an electric organ that works afaik on the principle of induction a bit like a Rhodes (it uses tonewheels that rotate agains an eletric field to induce a current).....and my Rhodes also has MIDI...you just need a DSP that converts the information sent by the MIDI signal to the rotation of the tonewheel ....if you build a new organ it should not be too picky....but it's fuck if you need to rebuild this with an old hammond, where you need to rewire everything...(and it costs a fucking fortune...i paid around 1000$ for the MIDIfication of my Rhodes)
