To follow up on this I met with Patrick today and he told me they are working on a new album along with several other projects (like instructing a "sound sculpture" class at a local university and doing soundtracks for ballet and other installation work). That much I can say, their release schedule and plans look to have the new album released later this year and hopefully a North American tour afterwards (April?).

....YESSSS!!!!!
That is great news! It's good to hear that they actually plan to release something new. I also welcome new installation projects, I missed the last exhibition so this time I'll be there :)
EDIT: so 'wrong' might sound good for once :)

About the sound: he compared the sound of the new stuff to older material, in particular "Don't Crash" and "Commandomix". He mentioned they're using new synths and technology (Virus TI and Dave Smith Poly Evolver for example) to replicate the older sounds and methods they developed from way back when - such as pitching and detuning their drum sounds, creating some walls of distortion, etc. I haven't heard it but from what he described it sounds exciting.

:) No problem, I just needed to check with him to make sure it wasn't "top secret" info. They're not so good with email so I waited until I could see him in person - he also played for me the exhibition piece he made in 5.1 and it was really wild. Patrick loves working in 5.1 so don't be surprised if some Front live performances start incorporating it...
The part about the North American dates though, it seems the band is torn on it so it might not happen. I might have spoken too soon so as always check their site for their confirmed live dates.

That sounds pretty cool. What will the "sound sculpture" classes be like? This is definitely the sort of class I'd want to take.
