  1. another stream of consciousness type noise/drone type thing

I'm really just experimenting with different things but limiting my sonic pallet to just the future retro XS and Eventide Eclipse.

all comments are encouraged. i'm not trying to get paid or played. this is fun for me but i do wish to continually improve. so tell me what you like, what you don't, you don't even have to explain why but it makes it more interesting if you do.

so here's the newest thing i just did.
probably took about 5 hours. way more time intensive than i thought.

I like how the track evolves and I'm curious about the percussion part. DId you do it on the XS?

At one point the song reminded me of an Aphex Twin song which name I can;t remember right now.

  3. yeah. all percussion was programmed on the XS

  6. i will.

think i'm going to try something diff. going to program a basic drum beat and record some synth playing while the beat loops.

i can make some really pretty sounds. i was trying the more noisy experimental approach because my fiancee said "everything sounds so happy and beautiful"

i guess she thought it was odd that i would play pretty stuff since 90% of what i listen to is dark, harsh, chaotic and violently noisy.

i haven't actually sat down and tried to make anything specific.. i usually just start with something.. anything.. and go from there

i like the free form exploration. no rules, no limits, just me learning the gear and continuously recreating and refining my own processes.

i really love sound design. song structure has now gotten it's grasp on me too.. so i plan on to continue my exploration into sound design, actual playing of keys, and song structure/sequencing.

i like participating in threads like "tips for ambient pads" but sometimes i think my prolific use of regurgitated information mixed with my own experience makes me appear more skillful than i actually am.

i'm just a noob, but i hunger for all things sound and especially synth. i do think i'm progressing fast but thats just because of all the excellent resources i've found on the internet including members of this board and the fact that I devote a minimum of 2 hours a day to playing but it is usually much more than that... to the point of distracting from my other responsibilities.

and on that note.. i've got a bass patch to make more angry sounding

    after i smoke a bowl

  7. that bass patch ended up sounding more like a cello.. then i decided to use a bandpass filter that swept through the frequencies pretty fast.

i recorded a couple of loops of that with FX then changed the patch up to a hard sync a few octaves higher with LP filter and recorded and layered those.

added come compression via soundforge to glue it together

  8. and here is another bass patch over some drums. all sounds FR XS and Eventide.

i played the keys while listening to the drum track in head phones. i then cut out the good parts of what i played and cut/paste'd em down the line.

it actually takes longer to do the drums.. each type gets their own track.. then recorded dry.. then with fx.. then some stuff is combined and distilled down. then when all the levels are set and a drum loop sounds good i'll paste it down the track so it plays for minutes.. then just have it playback in headphones while i play keys ontop of it.
