  2. IMHO there's only one real choice if you're looking for pro stuff. the RME Fireface 800. I am using it for 5 years now and was always very happy with it and the drivers, support, etc.

Interestingly enough I heard an A/B comparison between the Fireface and TC Studio Konnekt 48. I could only detect the slightest difference between the two.

    what about m-audio profire 2626 ?

  6. I'd go with the Echo Audiofire. It's got the same converters as the Fireface and is much cheaper.

yeah the question was for an firewire 800 NOT an 400 like all others (Koneckt 48 audiofire and profire) anyway now i run only with vsti, so now I don't care of a good sound card .

Erm - I've been interface shopping for a while(6 months). There are no interfaces that use Firewire 800 currently.

    come on guys!
the first line in the RME webiste about the fireface 800:

The Fireface 800 is the world's most powerful FireWire audio interface ever. Up to 56 channels record/playback, up to 192 kHz sample rate, and true FireWire 800 sum up to an unsurpassed high-end, high performance and high speed FireWire audio interface

When you don't know someting try to get information correctly, this is 2010, and the information so easy to get!
But anyway is always like that in all tech forum. Thanks to try to help.

Don't forget the main subject.... so anyone know a another firewire 800 interface except the RME one?

I got it wrong on the RME, my mistake, whatever.

I still stand by my statement that(aside from the FF8000) I have not seen another FW Interface with a an 800 port.

Ok got it wrong as well, was misled about the backward compatibility. So I guess that's still the only one out there at the moment that does true FW800?

Pretty much yes. Unless there's another unit lurking out there.

ehm...so your ears can do D/A Conversion Inbrain :-)?

  17. if your production is in the box... why would you need to convert from digital to analog?

he's ruled out the need for A/D conversion by sticking to VSTs

the master? or can you hear bits?

even if you do mix produce whatsoever do in the box you, at some point, need to take the stereosum out to some speakers....seems to be very outdated, but still..speaker work analogue...and also can only handle analogue signals...so even if you do everything in your box...the audio signal that comes out of your speakers... is always analogue...

    :-)

    and I spoke of D/A....not A/D :-)

  19. i know you spoke of D/A.... see my first sentence

and while you're correct... he could just use whatever sound card his computer already has.. and just run it out of some headphones..... not the best of ideas but if you're sticking in the box without a good soundcard with decent drivers... what does it really matter?

some people just want to make music... for fun. people spend thousands on gear but don't make a dime from their craft... which is fine.. its what they do for fun.... the guy that only spends a few hundred dollars doesn't have any less fun though

you could build a birdhouse out of bricks... but pop-sicle sticks work just fine

@Tsarik: dunno how you handle it, but I prefer some quality in even my hobbies...and the quality of the audio interface, or at least the master out is pretty one of the cores of an electronic production...be it itb or with outboard...if one ever skips the 6Tracks border and assembles a complete track with automation etc imho for a decent mixdown you need at least a musician-oriented soundcard....needs not to be a 1000$+ interface surely not...but it should at least have a normal frequency range...

about the FW800 thing I think this is only needed when you connect more than 10 simultaneous sound sources....I'd say from then on the bus speed counts...also if you mix in the box...lateny is no topic....if you mix hardware and software I'say everything under 6-7ms is OK and works also with a FW400 interface....
