  1. AWESOME album! Their best release since Arcadia "So Red The Rose"

  2. Ugh! Really man? The single is terrible. What are the gems on the album?

  3. All You Need Is Now is actually the weakest track on the album (odd choice for a single if you ask me). There are LOTS of gems on the new album: Being Followed, Safe, The Man Who Stole a Leopard & Mediterranea. Highly recommended!

can’t say that “All You Need Is Now” is the best Duran Duran album since their initial split, but they did recapture the early 80s “New Romantic” sound in quite a few songs of this new album. Overall, I think that it’s a very good album with a few misses.

My favorite song on this album is The Man Who Stole A Leopard. This song sounds so much like The Chauffeur. It has that build up just like The Chauffeur does, and Nick uses some of the same synth and drum effect sounds from The Chauffeur, unless that’s Roger recreating those drum effects. I had no idea who Kelis was before this album, but her voice is very nice in this song.

Despite its lackluster verses, I really do like All You Need Is Now. Its chorus has a very early 80s Duran Duran feel to it. Other tracks that I like a lot are Blame The Machines (This song reminds a bit of Last Chance On The Stairway, and I love Nick's old school washing keys in the chorus), Being Followed (I love Dom Brown's new wave guitar riff and again love Nick's washing keyboards in the chorus), Leave A Light On (It reminds me a bit of Save A Prayer musically, and it's such a pretty song), Girl Panic! (This song really reminds me of Girls On Film from Roger’s drum intro to John popping his bass in this song just like he used to do back in the early 80s), Mediterranea (It reminds me a bit of My Antarctica but without Nick’s wonderful piano playing), and Before The Rain (It’s a very haunting, melancholic song).

There are two instrumentals: Diamond In the Mind and Return To Now. Both songs are short and are pretty much orchestra-driven. They have motifs from the All You Need Is Now chorus. They’re very nice interludes.

In my opinion, Safe is the worst song on the album. Someone needs to tell Ana Mtronic to stay away from singing for 80s bands. I’m not a big fan of her on New Order’s “Jet Stream.” Only Bernard’s voice in the verses saves that song. Safe sounds like Blondie’s Rapture at times when Ana’s singing. While I love the lyrics for Other People’s Lives, it’s too saccharine for me. I’m not too impressed by Networker Nation but dig the lyrics.

I bought the Best Buy edition, which contains two extra tracks: Too Close To The Sun and Early Summer Nerves. Both songs are ok but are still way better than Safe and Other People’s Lives.

  5. I'll give it a shot since Nader and I have very similar tastes-in synthpop.

Can't believe you have never heard of Kelis?

lol! Nope, I had no idea who she was and had never heard any of her songs until "Milkshake." Though, now I know why the guys in Duran Duran wanted for her to sing on the album. :0) I was wondering if she looked as good as her voice. Her voice, almost in a wispy style, is a bit deeper and much more sultry in "The Man Who Stole A Leopard" than in "Milkshake."

  7. She also did the Acapella track that was going around the minimal tech remixes for awhile.

Keep in mind "Milkshake", was a few years ago. Maybe she is in the all grownz up period now where she has to sound more adult :P I think her milkshake might still bring all the boys to the yard though..

someone told me milkshake is a euphemism for a sex move, but I can't figure out what.

a friend of mine suspects its where a man dips his balls in milk.

  9. @ Ornox,

Thanks for the valuable info :P

    @I'm Not The One

The Man Who Stole a Leopard is a KILLER track & you're right about the analogy between Leave The Light On & Save A Prayer:)

  11. YOU NASTY ORNOX! The song is about her working at a diner and getting well known for making milkshakes. So well known that the customers started going to her place of residence when she was off work and she considered starting a business on the side. Coincidently it is the same story as how "Häagen-Dazs" came about. Kelis is a business women of high regard!

It a good album but not great in my opinion. It lacks a couple of great hits like Wild Boys or New moon on moday.

But that single All You Need Is Now is good dam terrible, how the hell did that track make it on the album, Every time I hear it, what a shitty synth line for an intro, I cant believe its there and even worse, is the single???????
