When I was a younger man, I would get very excited for new releases from bands I liked. I would start anticipating weeks in advance, pre-order, make the trek down to the CD store, and listen to the CD a couple of times in a row.

Nowadays I'm less like that, because I listen to a lot more music and because I'm very critical of even my favourite artists. But I still get excited once or twice a year for an album, something that I find out about weeks in advance and can't help but anticipate. So I'm no less passionate, but far less "fanboy" about certain bands.

Do you still get that childish glee for upcoming releases? Or have you mellowed with age?

  3. yeah I still do too. Has to be a band I really dig or an album that has alot of hype. Coil would always do that for me. And Puppy before. Right now im that way with most of the Infacted releases.

  4. Nope. Not anymore. Usually I go in expecting the worst, that way sometimes I am pleasantly surprised.

I do. I hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Lately (as in the last 5-10 years), my old favorites have mostly let me down though (thank the FSM for new artists/genres)

However, my excitements is channeled into waiting for the album and buying it first day. I don't pre-order or go to a physical shop to listen, or buy collector item stuff or shit...

    TACOS!

    It depends on the band.

For instance, I was very excited when the new Ohgr came out but when the new FLA came out I didn't even bother to learn the album name and I still like FLA.

I still get excited sometimes, but not as often, and it's a different kind of excitement. When you can preview most of the album in advance nowadays it kind of mellows the anticipation. And with access to so much music, there's always something else to keep you occupied during the wait.

But I remember going to the record store to pick up albums like The Downward Spiral, Hard Wired, and Pantera-Far Beyond Driven in high school and college and being pysched for it. A new release seemed so much more rare and fleeting then. I kind of miss that feeling, from a time when the whole musical process felt a lot more mystical.

  11. yeah what everyone else said echos for me too, like when seabound double crosser came out i was excited for like months (wasn't that long ago but im a youngin') but these days, if i liked the previous release, there's still some excitement but not nearly as much.

  12. Allright, if we’re gonna wax nostalgic here..

Admittedly, now a days, nothing compares with the “old” days of a new release. I would pick up a Wax Trax! record and the insert would have a list of albums coming out. I’d need to go down to Philly to get music so when I found out a new release was out, a buddy and I would road trip down to Tower Records or Digital Underground or 3rd Street and Jazz in Philly and pick it up. Then shit our pants listening to the CD on the way home.

I remember doing this with Numb “Bliss” Cds, Frontline Assembly “Caustic Grip”, Thrill Kill Kult “Confessions of a Knife”, Skinny Puppy “Too Dark Park” etc. It was also a huge fuckin event to find out the store had it in stock and then plan Friday night to drive an hour to Philly to get the release and listen to it and usually end up picking up 2 other CDs while down there.

Yeah those days are gone. But I still do get excited over some bands when I know something is coming out.

Been waiting for Grendels "Timewave: Zero" album half a year now. I´m just hoping it doesn´t fail like "Chemicals + circuitry", but since they said they go back to distortion I have a reason to be exited =)

But yeah I get exited... A LOT!

Also, album #<4 digit number> is less exciting, or at least keeps the attention for less time than album #<2-3 digit number>.

Still, I'm pretty excited for the new Project Pitchfork, Diary of Dreams and Das Ich

  17. no, but it doesn't have anything to do with the quality of music.

See for example Noisuf-X says he will release a futureska album, that has me excited... or intrigued rather.

  19. I predict that any style of music that begins with the word "future", will end badly.
