I have heard various musicians trying to Dj and they are pretty horrible. I have heard some pretty famous artist try to Dj and it is apparent that they have no idea what is going on in the club scene or they have just bad music taste.

Maybe part of being a great artist is not caring too much about the club scene.

But you should at least be able to listen to quality music and catches people's attention.

anyone can be a club DJ!! man, all you need is a laptop and tons of pirated mp3's of all the popular scene bands, and imitate the other DJ's who are HOT and on myspace/facebook/twitter and who have the most followers, then get people convinced you are so cool with "your DJ image/look" that you can tour as a DJ who never bought a CD or received a proper promo in their lives..this is 2010..they call it progress...lol

@Tommy T
That shit drives me insane. When I go to request a song and all I see is a laptop or CD-Rs. 0 respect for these kinds of "Dj's"
I always took pride when I DJed that all the stuff I played came off a REAL copy of the album.

If you're going to a club for musical revelations then you're a sorry sorry sack indeed.

@S80
and....thats all there are now man!! every DJ is just running a laptop with the stolen mp3's they hack all day and night, and they are the ones getting paid, laid, and supported!!! while losers like me buy CD's, trade CD's, receive promo copies the legit way, and bring CD's to the radio station, do a REAL LIVE MIX, take requests, online promotions, and I get paid 0.00.....its crazy, and I just don't "get it" anymore..I admit.the more you work, the less you get paid it seems..

too true, too true..lolPosted 1 year ago # -
If I had a venue I'd require any DJ to be 100% legal... course I'd probably never be able to find a DJ then either...
I finally started my radio show back up. It's only a monthly thing though 'cause I just don't own enough good music to do it more often. I only buy CD's so my library grows at a modest pace.

as long as the artists are getting heard everyone has different tastes dont be quick to judge people have their own way of getting new and old music through the scene

Any paid DJ who gets their music illegally should be behind bars, not behind a table.

Oh jesus here we go again.
Anyway, I DJ with CDrs. I own too much rare music to bring the original CDs of all of it to the club every night, and I own too much music to be able to reasonably sift through all of it. I'm tired of bringing a dozen Skinny Puppy CDs and two dozen NIN CDs or whatever. I burn two or three SP and two or three NIN CDs with all the songs I might want to play. Same with Ministry, Neubauten, Haujobb, whatever else.
Plus, some CDs only have one good track. Fuck if I'm gonna bring 50 CDs so that I can play a max of 55 songs from them. Burning CDrs is a logistical issue.

There are still a few of us laptop DJs who do things legitamately.... I DJ off a digital collection that consists of purchased CDs ripped at CD quality and label promos (most of which are serviced out in digital format).

I´m spining since 1986 or 1987 and never used a Laptop for it.
It´s not important what the DJ use, as long he(or she) knows how to use it.
Most artist I ever had as DJ don´t know what to do. Strange thing is that the audience accept this because of the status of the artist.Posted 1 year ago # -
Some artists are good DJ's. Johan from SC is pretty good, though he only plays darkelectro and the likes. Mark Jackson knows his way behind the wheels of steel as well. I DJed with both a few times, and those were fun times. There are offcourse artists who lack some serious DJ talent. But there are some very nice people among them, so i am not going to call names.
Oh and that guy from Mono no aware is pretty good as well. :D
Oh, and btw. All these guys play with originals. So do i btw. Book us! :D

DJ's make crappy musicians

I honestly cannot make a blanket statement either way. I know musicians who are great DJ's and DJ's who are great musicians. I just think we are running low on shit to bitch about. This place needs an overhaul again soon.
