  2. completely badass, and it'll be much more so when you can load your own samples

  3. Ah, so that is where the Boom Tik got to.

2K though? Fuck. My wife is going to kill me one of these days.

looks awesome. i see it includes a 'sample library' & has USB but i don't see if i'd be able to dump my own samples in it. been wanting a good drum machine i can load up w/ my own sounds & was tempted by the elektron mashinedrum but never pulled the trigger on one.

  6. @ Metaball - You can indeed use your own samples.

  7. if the price goes down, i'd contemplate selling my non-sampling machinedrum and get one of these

  8. there will absolutely not be sample importing on the tempest when it is released.. and it is only a possibility for version 2

these are the words from Pym who posts at gearslutz and is the DSI employee doing the coding

sample import is absolutely essential because synthesizing cymbal sounds has proven to be extremely fucking difficult, i bet a good portion of the samples that will ship with the unit are of cymbals and percussion sounds that you couldn't do without a beastly amount of hardware. but my 1 hang up is the digital envelopes... they do say they are twice as fast as any other DSI synthesizer, so there may very well be absolutely no problem with them, i'd like to hear from a reliable source though just exactly how fast they are

  9. Ahh really? It was kind of intimated from what Dave and Roger were saying over at CDM that it would feature limited sampling... Bit of a shame :(

  10. there isn't any reason not to add it as a feature, it wont cost anything other than paying a programmer.. and i also get the feeling that it will definitely be included, just not for a while.

i think not including whatever sampling becomes available initially is a good idea... the digital osc aren't as robust as those in the evolver...no idea if this would effect sampling possibilities... and the synth is centered around synthesis and can even be used as a 6 voice polyphonic synth so people really should dig into programming it and not be distracted by the ability to put samples into it

i get the feeling the use of samples is really just there to add something to the sounds you program, i've gotten really impressive results layering the same 2 sounds but with different levels each, the differences in sound of the same 2 samples at different volumes was impressive.

so the Tempest will be synthesis focused and the Linndrumm2 will be sample focused... at least that is what i think

digital envelopes and limited sampling aren't a huge deal when you think of it as a total package. i think its the coolest drum machine ever made, i've never even thought of getting an 808 or something affordable like an electribe.. but the tempest is something i'm definitely going to consider

  11. @ Tsarik - Likewise. I'm seriously digging what they've done with this. It's just very appealing to my current sensibilities - i.e. try and make a concerted effort to get away from software and get as much as possible from a limited range of gear.

    FUCK! 2 fucking thousand dollars!!!
this thing is beautiful...magnificent...but 2k? for that money, i'd buy an old faulty MPC, AKAI (s900, 950 range), and a decent channel strip, and still have leftover money for a dirty weekend with the ladyboys

@MEtaball: if Arturia holds their deadlines as good as they hold them with the origin updates you will not get the thing before 2012....:/...that really sucks...
