  1. So the thread over here: http://www.heathenhideout.com/viewtopic.php?t=2738 seems to be slow and has lost its pulse. I’ve no idea why: there has been scores upon scores of excellent dark ambient, Militaria, Neofolk, etc releases coming out. I figured, what the hell, no Dark Meat or Krieglied but I’ll start a thread up again here anyway. So here goes..On the various front:

-I was surprised and excited to see Dawn and Dusk Entwined have just released a proper CD version of their “Vanitas Vanitatum” album with extra tracks no less. Ordered!

-Ive gone back and started snagging the Wicked Messenger releases Jason was getting in at Malignant. No idea why I didn’t get his stuff before; excellent dark ambient in the vein of many Cyclic Law releases.

-Death In June – Whats with all the reissues already? Im a sucker and buying the picdisks and ten different formats of each new release but ugh…

-Sixth Comm is no more. Patrick sent out a mailing stating that he is moving on from 6C and focusing on his new project (Has a German name and Im forgetting it off the top of my head) but the Myspace samples of the new stuff sounds great: a more military sounding/older DIJ.

I have a pile of CDs to listen to that I haven’t checked out yet but that are sitting here next to me. All new releases by: Taphephobia, Scontrum Act IX, Westwind 2xCD, Asbaar, Sect, Peter Anderson, etc.

-Raison D’etre..patiently awaiting the 3xCD set to arrive here in the States.

I received a few things recently that have been quite good:

Sub Luna - Awake : Nice Neofolk with an ambient mood.

Gnaw Their Tongues - L'arrivée de la terne mort triomphante : Masterpiece, gives NTT a run for his money.

Ochestra Noir - What If : Sublime and strange folk album... piano heavy.

I haven't checked the new Death In June, I'm in a vinyl boycott phase.

Orchestra Noir this time is mostly Tony Wakeford and Richard Moult. I don't if you're familiar with Richard Moult's album that was released a few years ago on Cynfeird, but if you are you know that this guy is an avant garde pianist.

On a solo base, a few songs at a time was fine but a whole album was too much piano and a poor female singer trying to follow the non-melodies. However, coupled with the style of Wakeford and a bigger variety of instruments and singers it develops into something very subtle and hypnotic.

I'm planning to get the Wicked Messenger "Vision Rites And Techniques of Ecstacy" cd (though the cover makes me depressed that I'll probably never get the chance to go back to Tikal). I recently picked up Scontrum Act XI, but my most recent purchase was finally giving in and getting the Combative Alignment 3 x 3" cd set.

I also got a 3'' CD of a new band called Kreuzer, which theme revolves around the General De Gaulle. Haven't given it a thorough listen yet but it sounds promising.

I also bough the new Svalbard album... FAIL... their first EP was military dance pop and super fun, but the album has lost all the bouncy edge and falls flat completely.

Any information on what Tholen are up to would be appreciated. There is supposedly a new album in the works but little other news has been revealed. Also, has anyone gotten the new Dahlia's Tear album yet. Is it even out?

If there is a new Dahlia's Tear I haven't seen it on sale at Malignant or Tesco last time I checked. If it does exist I'd like to know where to get it.

    UnicaZurn: Propeller Guru

    Grand stuff.

Apoptose is very good as usual, but I don't know that other project.

Roger sent out an email to the CMI list: He is getting divorced and its been causing a havoc of things. I think thats why items like the new DT has not come out yet.

I got the e-mail but didn't remember Dahlia's Tear was to be released on CMI. That explains it all then.

Have you heard any of the UnicaZürn stuff by Stephen Thrower? I am extremely curious about this!

Just got the new ep in the mail. It's extremely dense sonically, lots of heavy drone and analogue squalls. No vocals from the band members that I can discern.

Atomtrakt: Sperrstelle Nordost Enhanced - Pretty good martial ambient, but not much different from their last one.

Von Throstrahl/Days of Trumpet Call: Pessoa/Cioran - A reissue that I missed the first time is very light neoclassical. A few good tunes, but not one of their best.

Von Throstrahl: Return Your Revolt into Style 2xCD - Another reissue that I've heard for the first time and I must say this is one of their best. A transition from their older stuff to modern VT, the first CD has nary a weak spot. The second is a bunch of remixes.

Westwind: Who Cares About the War 2CD - I don't know what it is about this act that intrigues me so, but I loved their previous 2CD Revenge and the mish-mash of genres they crossed. This is a 25-track compilation of rare recordings and unreleased stuff. Very martial industrial and ambient and worth getting.

Drakh: Bethlehem Boxset - I payed a lot of money for this box(more cardboard than wood) so I hoped the music could stand up to it. I'm very much pleased it did. The songs are matched to postcards and pictures. Very hypnotic and droney, in the vein of say.. Troum, which I happen to like a lot. Get it, even if you don't get the box.

The only militaristic thing I've got recently was the Von Thronstahl b-sides/alternate takes collection in a review package. Same old pish.

Yeah I got the VT re-releases too. Some good stuff and some bad. The newer stuff is generally excellent, the older stuff terrible.

The martial output has calmed down a bit I must say and there doesn't seem to be a new generation appearing.

    How is that Combative Alignment?

    @ seraphin,

It's actually pretty good. I was skeptical about it for a while because the latter albums, in particular "And Outside Glows The Red Dawn", were a bit monotone. This works by breaking the release into three separate 18-ish minute cds. The drone sounds are similar, but there are flat-sounding percussion sounds, Tibetan throat singing moments and some early Autopsia type horn drones. Each track makes for fairly compelling listening and develops over time.

Maybe their work is more effective in shorter doses, but I like this one.
