I just got my copy the 2 disc version(somehow, Metropolis gets out their CDs ahead of time).

I have to say that it's pretty damn solid. It has rather poignant moments mixed in with good old fashion 4 on the floor Covenant.

The addition of Myer's production is awesome. You can hear tell the difference on Dynamo Clock and When Worlds Collide.

So the worst track, IMHO, is the single. Still it's a cool track and it's different from the Single verion. The Beauty and The Grace is also very different; the album version is truly wonderful.

Solid release in my opinion. Covenant never disappoint.

    Edit:

The Road is also amazing. The entire album is electro-ebm soul music.

Thank you for the review. I am looking forward to this big time. I didn't love Skyshaper (liked it, at best), but this review got me excited.

It arrived this morning, so only a couple of plays so far. I'd say the best track is probably Beauty And The Grace, which has a definite Myer influence. A lot of the tracks have a slower anthemic feel, like the second half of Northern Light.

Worth the wait. Everything is flawless. Eskil and Daniel's music and engineering is incredible, per usual.

I like it a lot, certainly not disappointed and it gets better with each new listening. I only miss something more anthem-like and catchy... The Beauty and the Grace is the best track imo.

I agree. It doesn't really have an "anthem" per se.

Perhaps "Get On" is the closest we get to an anthem.

I really wish they had put "Come" on the album. That track is brilliant.
Hopefully they'll put "Come" on a future single, as a b-side.

  12. Covenant can be summed up with Sequencer and United States of Mind

those 2 albums will be lifetime... really.. lifetime favorites

this new album is good. really good... but different

i know it'll grow more on me over time but there are already songs that strike a chord in me that i just can't help but enjoy

covenant are usually a bit too ahead of it's time for people to like 100% right off the bat, that is part of their magic that makes this project special, they don't imitate, they innovate [with a touch of accessibility as needed for most people to swallow] after people in the know have a little while to process the genius, it will become slowly accepted as the masterpiece that it is, as is most of their work, truly brilliant given the flood of 4x4 mediocrity we have to wade through daily, imho. you couldn't ask for a better addition to the band than d.m. given the circumstances and his work shows through in a positive but not not over-bearing way.

Well it's good, better than Skyshaper for sure, but I don't feel it's incredibly innovative either, nor do I feel this is what's expected from Covenant.

The music is top notch but I have a beef with the lyrics and vocals, I don't feel the passion and honesty anymore.

I'll defend Skyshaper. There some not so great tunes on it; I never liked "The Men" and "Sweet and Salty" was a little akward and goofy but the songs after that are wonderful.

I still think Pulse is the better version of Dead Stars.

    I'm still loving Modern Ruin.

Skyshaper was not bad, I enjoyed it, I just find Modern Ruin is superior.

This new Covenant has something that the last few VNV Nation albums and the last Apoptygma album doesn't have. Integrity. Although the sound has been updated, it still sounds like a Covenant album.

I don't think it's possible to jab at this band for sticking with the same sound like lets say "Funker Vogt" or doing something to completely alienate their fanbase.

For me the song that sounds the most out of place is Lightbringer. It sounds more like something that would be on a comp than belong to this album. I haven't gotten into Beat The Noise or Get On but they might grow on me.

The Beauty And The Grace is a wonderful track. It shows maturity and proves a band can update it's sound without trying to sound like AFI.
