Does anyone else have bands they used to love, but never listen to anymore?

For me, I used to listen to Combichrist and Covenant religiously. I must admit, this was right after I discovered Industrial existed (no one where I live has even heard of Industrial, sad really). I hadn't even heard :wumpscut: yet!

What bands did you used to like? Why don't you like them anymore?

For me, I just found Combichrist cheesy and Covenant boring. I recognize they are both talented artists though.

  2. all the new terrorgazm banana bands that came out i used to listen to and i can't listen to most anymore. not sure there are many bands that i just stopped listening to all together, more or less the artist comes out with a new album and i find myself listening to their older stuff less i would probably say. like since the latest combichrist, covenant, absurd minds, or dismantled i don't listen to any of them much anymore. maybe i've just overplayed the older stuff too much but i don't know.

as a matter of fact, id almost say im the opposite in a lot of ways, i used to HATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE skinny puppy and ALL old school ebm, these days i have a SP tattoo and i listen to all sorts of old school ebm.

  3. Usually if I like a band, I will keep liking them unless there is a drastic change in their format. I may listen to them less over time, but I will still like them unless they sound totally different. And really, even then I will still listen to the shit I like from that artist. Like Metallica. I still listen to Metallica a lot. Just not "new" Metallica. They have disappointed me wih new releases too many times. Ever since Load and that is a long time ago. I don't even bother checking the new shit out (though people have said good things about Death Magnetic). I still count their first 4 albums as some of my favorite releases EVER and would never not like those albums.

I was never a huge Combi fan at all but the few songs that I do like from them, I like a lot.

    HI !

I've got a ton of pigface on cd i bought in the mid/late 90's that i could care less about. It's just kinda shlocky tired pop rock.
Snog is another one, Probably have 6 cd's plus some vinyl and most of it just puts a bad taste in my mouth. Too heavy handed soapbox barking. Only ever even bought them because i liked the black lung - Rhic Edom 12" so much, and had a ton of money back then to blow on music.

  5. Covenant... nothing has been the same since Sequencer... that album was pefect.. but Unitied States of Mind.. wasn't bad.. its actually really good.. just not "sequencer" good

Evil's Toy... became Toy.. sucks to this day

In Strict Confidence ... so much talent.. i guess they matured.. there is still a lot of depth to the music but that magic that comes so easy to youth is gone

Imperative Reaction ... everything after Eulogy sucked .. in its own awesome way.. it wasn't ever crap.. it just wasn't as strong as the material before it... i think they were working on an album.. an album that could've been a proper follow up to 'eulogy' ... that was lost.. with only the song "rift" remaining

Pulse Legion ... dude died after "one thing" so that kinda put the kabosh on em, but i used to listen to them every day

Wumpscut.. lots of talent.. never went beyond the original sound he developed... stagnant.. rehashings of better years

Bio-tek... great music.. vocal stylings to0 similar... can't listen to as much as i used to.. still great shit though

Funker Vogt... just doesn't do it for me anymore.. haven't bought or listened to anything after "execution tracks"

Velvet Acid Christ... same as Funker Vogt.. haven't enjoyed anything since "Fun With Knives

Informatik.. Syntax was such a great album... still is.. but i can throw away more than half of every album he's released since then

Battery Cage.. released a fucking silly, juvenile album after "world wide wasteland" .. after hearing the lyrics on this album.. i was ashamed to call myself a fan. The guitar work is so shitty.. it shouldn't even be on the album

those are really the only ones i can really thing of that i used to listen to a lot.. a whole fucking lot.. that i don't listen to at all really, anymore

.. that said.. i still own and enjoy albums released by all of the above.. they are all talented.. but i've just lost that magical relationship i used to have with their music

Can't think of any. It would have been much easier the other way around (albums that I hated on first listen and learned to love later...)

I assumed that what you're asking for is albums/songs that you loved back when they were fresh, but have outgrown, and not artists that made great stuff earlier, and crap now?

(in that case, got a bunch of those)

You're right, Xeno. There are some albums that have just kinda sucked, but also some that made me love a band more. On a positive note, I just loved Blutzoll by Funker Vogt (not the consensus, I know, but I just love that band) and Evoke by Wumpscut (another pretty unpopular opinion). I guess it was great works by other bands rather than screwups by the other bands that put me off the others.

    HI !

Yea i took this more to mean bands that got played out or you outgrew, not so much bands that jumped the shark/lost their muse etc. I guess there could also be a certain amount of overlap there. The jump the shark list would probably include almost everyone with more than a few albums under their belt who didn't outright quit music.

    Someone should start that thread.

I used to love KMFDM but they just keep remaking the same song over and over again. And I'll probably get flamed for this one, but I have completely lost interest in Front Line.

I was big KMFDM fan from Money album up until Symbols album. I lost all interest in anything they have put out since.

@crispy I feel the same about Front Line. At least I still buy all the post Hardwired Front Line albums but since Implode I don't listen to any of it that much

I'm not trying to dis Front Line at all. I still respect the talent, just don't find anything that really blows me away and makes me want to listen to it over and over again

Front line is also one for me, love the production, sounds ect but the actual songs dont do it for me anymore, they have all that I like exept for the melodies and harmonies, too linear, plus I am tired of their break beat / drum bass thing, it was nice in the beginning but doesnt do anything for me now.

    And then many people died.

KMFDM... but I think this is true for many people.

I lost a great deal of my interest in most industrial rock and much of the modern ebm scene. I just find a great deal of the terrorbanana stuff silly and uninteresting. Like a lot of people on this thread, I just moved into collecting more old school items.
At some point I transformed from a Metropolis to Mute Records person.

I could name a bunch of groups whose old stuff I loved but new stuff I disliked, or only liked one album of theirs, but I'm not sure if that fits this. [Those groups would be Wumpscut, Imperative Reaction {They had a few decent songs after Eulogy, but mostly bad], Orange Sector {Same thing, they kind of started to lose me}, Oomph]

The one band I can think of that I used to like but just now hate is probably VNV Nation. Their live shows went to shit after a while [Which used to be their strong point] and their music went completely off the rails for me. So much so, that it kind of retroactively ruined the band for me.

Wumpscut, FLA is also quite boring today, Imperative Reaction, Covenant (their last album lasted for two listens)...
