I'm scared I have too many band shirts and not enough normal shirts. How would having 70% of my casual T-shirts paint me as an individual? Does this make me seem like a big music nerd? Does it make me seem like some kind of stereotype?

I ask because I want to buy another shirt, but I'm scared that it'll be one too many. Also, its pretty not-very-well-known producer so I fear its almost redundant. But on the flip side, I'm a big fan and the design is simple enough that it doesn't necessarily look like a band shirt.

Actually, here they are (its the VHS Head one): http://www.skamshop.co.uk/acatalog/Merchandise_Clothing.html

So what do? Buy yet another band shirt, or save my money and buy a normal shirt.

  4. What, precisely, is a "normal", shirt? Are band t-shirts abnormal now? Where do B-horror and sci-fi shirts fit in? Like if I wear a Ichi The Killer shirt out-does that make me normal, or abnormal? Is it normal to wear a shirt that says McDonalds? Or does that mean you wish to be employed there?

Being perfectly honest here. I tend to buy shirts that they only sell at Halloween, and wear them the rest of the year. Are those considered normal shirts? They are not band shirts..

    TACOS!

When I was a teenager, band shirts, band jackets and band hoodies were all I'd wear.

But then this thing called "growing up" happened to me and now a days I wear more pollo, burberry and button shirts but I still wear band shirts occasionally on informal nothing-to-do days.

I was quite surprised and pleased one day when some guy saw my Laibach t-shirt and asked "Wow! Are those guys still around?"

    HI !

Depends how old you are and what your social circle is. Most "normal" men would agree that you should probably start dressing like an adult (i.e. not like a kid) past oh i donno? 25? Do you own any nice button down shirts? Do you take care of your shoes or are they all dirty? Are you a white trash scrub who attends weddings and funerals in band teeshirts? Do you own anything you could wear out to a non-chain restaurant? The first step is admitting you have no class. the next step is faking it!

Check out http://www.styleforum.net/ They'll talk you into dressing like a man, oh and spending $300 on designer sunglasses.

All that said, I love band shirts, i've got a giant bag of them in my closet from my teens. Newest acquisitions are a Swans shirt, Sigillum S shirt, bootleg spk, hunting lodge, and vivenza shirts from http://parasite.bigcartel.com/ and a Grim shirt.

Band shirts = perfectly acceptable, normal day-to-day wear, at least to me. Band shirts have come a long way. They look better now, with better designs, better screen printing, and better cuts (more fitted, less boxy).

(Remember, years ago, how band shirts used to be size XXXXXL and have tour dates on the back?)

I guess it depends on the social circles you're in. Me, most of my friends are 30-something year-olds in the gaming industry, so they're wearing tech or game-related t-shirts all the time. My band shirts blend in just fine :)

Yeah, I would rather wear my Half-Life 2 shirt than any button up deal to any function. Fuck social circles really.

  13. I've never worn band shirts. Too fucking tacky. Or for that matter, shirts with anybodys logo on them. I fucking hate them. If somebody paid me I'd wear their band shirt but thats not likely. Not my thing at all. I don't want to be a walking billboard for anyone. For kicking around in the hood or going to the mall black t-shirts with some random weird/abstract designs are OK and some black jeans with normal Docs. For riveting or hessian headbanging though my standard uniform is pitch black everything...

Still not decided. What you are all experiencing is the intense magic of my indecision to spend money.

I guess the band shirt remorse comes from the fact the friends I have are kind of smartly dressed, and I didn't want to feel like a basement dweller nor a musical elitist. And also cos I have a crap load of band shirts. So whilst my friends are starting to dress like adult (albeit fashionable university proto-adults) I'm having a belated teenage band-shirt phase.

Also, I don't want to be that horrible "music guy" who always wears that particular classic rock shirt and always ends up talking about how he's just sooooo into music.

    Know what I'm saying?

fuck people, people are cretin, unworthy of trust and your ear.
wear what you want. that's what I do mostly.

The only reason I make the slightest effort to dress okay (still not sure if I do) is because girls don't like slobs.

You would dress like a slob if not for girls? This amuses me for some reason.

Dude, I'm so whatevs it hurts.

"Still not decided. What you are all experiencing is the intense magic of my indecision to spend money." << I identify with this :)

I have to say, those VHS shirts look great because they don't scream LOOK AT ME — BAND NAME HERE! It's a nice design. Abstract enough to be confused for some graphic design shirt from the Veer merch catalog :)

If you want to look more "adult" (whatever that means — I'm almost 40 and I still don't get it), wear it with nice, dark jeans.
