  1. What the hell? Just so happened to stumble across news saying that Atari Teenage Riot are to reform, and are playing shows performing both old and new material!
I'm not quite sure how I feel about this to be honest. I mean I loved the band and all, but somehow it just feels kinda wrong... what with Carl Crack having been dead for years and Alec Empire having since moved on to trying to woo the Berlin hipster fraternity...

I dunno, what do you guys think?

well Ive heard Alec say many times that without Carl Crack there is no ATR. also, Hanin Elias got out of the music business. and Nic Endo has always performed post-ATR with Alec on his solo stuff. so the fact that they are going to add old ATR songs to the set lists, doesnt mean ATR is reforming.
Ill be one of the first ones jumping up and down with joy if it were possible for them to reform. but unless Hanin is back in, and since Carl is unfortunately dead, i dont know how this could be true.

so ok, im wrong. from Hanin Elias' FaceBook:
    http://www.facebook.com/haninelias.official

"Hanin Elias will do some ATR Shows in May! Europe here i come!
Confirmed dates are: May 3 in Amsterdam at Paradiso and May 12th in London at Electric Ballroom! Please get your tickets so we will have more shows to follow!"

Weird, just really weird. What'd Carl Crack die from? (I'm going to feel really stupid if it's crack)

  6. @ Defaultet - Very close! Drug overdose of some kind.

  8. Atari are definitely reforming. I was quite an Atari fan fan in the 90's (even if I did enjoy ec8or more, actually), but I don't think that's good news. Alec Empire material is just so shallow... And I must admit I don't like the guy. At all. Hanin is really cool, I can't see why she's into this... Well, actually, I see : she probably needs money.

I opened with tPROE for Alec Empire once, and he was very friendly to us. We exchanged buttons with him and Nic Endo, and chatted a lot.
ATR reforming is good news. I guess. I like that material, and the really old Alec Empire material (92-94) a lot, so curious how this turns out.

Depends what sound they choose to pursue. If it's gonna be digital hardcore again, I'm not sure I still need that sound in 2010 anymore. But that's just me.

"The band will also release a new single, 'Activate', on May 17 on their own label Digital Hardcore Recordings."

Alec Empire has been making terrible music lately. He went that whole cocaine-hipster-electro route. Ew. "Intelligence and Sacrifice" and "The Destroyer" are classic albums though. I was a bigger fan of the idea over the execution when it comes to Atari Teenage Riot, but there were still some great tracks.

Let's all buy some Ambassador 21 instead. It's much better than ATR ever was.

    BURN BERLIN BURN!!
I saw ATR in Philly in 96 or 97 Carl Crack was out of his mind. He jumped off stage and got in some kids face and scared the shit out of him

  15. @ djtekslave : SURE !
And, furthermore, I've spent the whole week with ALexey and Natasha and they are the NICEST people.

By the way, have a look at Hanin's FB page... Seems like things are not so happy in Riot land ha ha

yes, it blew my mind when A21 was added to the Kinetik 3 lineup. the fact that they were going to play somewhere on this side of the earth, i knew that very second I was definitely going back to Kinetik this year. :)

The names of just a few bands who have moved the digital hardcore sound way beyond its original archetype and in my opinion have pretty-much made Atari Teenage Riot obsolete.

Empire and co are going to have to do something REALLY special in order to be exciting and relevant amidst the current post-DHC scene, and to be frank, I really don't have much faith that they can.

  19. @ Rogue Process : I'll add french band Shane Cough, first and third albums are top-notch (forget about the 2nd, tho) - and I sure agree on everyone on the list, even if I tend to think that with Punish Yourself we didn't ever tried to be "digital hardcore".
