Here are a few tips to achieve that acid sound.

1 - Set your cutoff knob to an 11 o'clock position and your resonance to 1 o'clock

    2 - Set the amp envelope like this A: 0%, D: 10%, S: 0% and R: 0%

3 - now do the same for the Filter envelope

4 - Slowly increase the Filter Envelope depth

Now just start tweaking the cutoff and resonance knobs until you get that acid bass.

This works better for 1/16 notes playing fast (like 120 bpm at least).

Obviously there's no RIGHT way to do it but these are settings that works for me :)

Here's an acid experiment I did a long time ago.

  3. thats just what i needed. thx dodd

you play that funky guitar or sample it?

  4. Awesome, thanks dude. I got what I wanted to hear out of it anyhow. What nice fucking oscillators and resonance on this thing. But yeah, with acid, you wanna do portamento on the occasional note and really set the envelopes to open quickly to show off that resonance. To be authentic, you may want to apply the same exact envelope to both the filter cutoff and the amplitude, and don't use sustain or release at all.

But yeah, I can -really- hear the discrete circuitry here. I like a fucking lot. Thanks!

I think it's a clavichord and it is sampled.

  9. That is really fucking cool. I know you are just kinda fucking around, but that track has big potential if you want to drop it on Subspine.

  10. i'd love to drop it on subspine

but it is only 2 tracks. the drums and the bassline. its 120 megs. if that is cool, i'll upload it

  11. FLAC it and ZIP it. Will be fine.

    No MIDI?

  12. i made a .rar

i can zip if needed. kept it as .wav and had the midi too and it came in at 80ish megs. i uploaded it.

  13. Good enough. You should look into FLAC though, saves space and time. I think Reaper plays FLACs too right?

  14. No MIDI in this folder. Something called an RPP file and REAPEAKS files. ??

I can hack at it without MIDI though. What is the BPM?

  15. try renaming the file. i can make it save it as .midi too .... thats just reaper's format, i had it set up to do so but have reinstalled stuff so forgot to do so again. tell me if you need em

yeah reaper can do any format i think. its great with audio. i use soundforge to make .flacs for soundcloud. i used to do huge .wavs but i can't hear the difference, but i still prefer to use and give as 48khrz .wavs

correction ... it is 137 bpm sorry

  16. 126BPM, it fits perfectly. Reaper is weird :P I tried to rename the RPP to MIDI and Cubase will not import it. Anyhow I have the WAV cut out now and I can work with it. Add a bit of oomph to the drums and accent the acid bassline. Nice stuff here :D

  17. weird that it works at 126 for you.. but if it works it works, haha. i can't wait to hear it after it has been through the R010R!

if you ever get the urge you should play with reaper's demo... i think it's pretty damned impressive and their price can't be beat. i sequence and record with it... i use outboard fx but i hear reaper is awesome at editing audio.. i've used soundforge for longer so still do a lot in that though but want to start checking out some of reapers other functions... like... i've heard of putting limiters on tracks.... i usually just mess with the faders on my mixer to get stuff just the right height so it has room to move and not clip... but i'd like to try some of the other stuff.. maybe my recordings will sound better or more dynamic

its killer when i get a tip and it inspires me though. thx a ton dodd. and i really love hearing the remixes you do of my stuff, Michael. they always come out amazing.. i think they're much better structured and mixed; structure and making a dynamic moving song is something i'd really like to learn.

i think i'm going to fuck with that noisy track i made a few days ago... make it a little less cacophonic and possibly drop some acid in it!

  18. I did download it and try it for the trial. I did not like the GUI and the way the virtual effects and instruments were set up. It worked very well though. I still cannot figure out why when I am working on your material the sequences seem to drift. I usually have to cut it up and paste it back as loops.

  19. do they drift in the audio tracks or just when you use the midi?

i can save them as actual midi files and send em to you. i'd be interested in knowing the exact cause of this discrepancy just because it would be one of those weird quirks i'd like to know about

    Posted 1 year ago #
  20. Always the audio tracks. Yes, do send me the MIDI. I already cut up your drums to use as loops but I want to see if the MIDI for the bassline matches the audio all the way through. When I am done cutting it up I will re-upload it as a proper remix kit.

I am going to work on this Sunday when I am off.
