I'm looking for a good CD retail store in the NYC area that sells industrial, eletronic etc. music. The only place I can find that's nearest to me is Isotank, which is all the way in PA and I live in NY. Can't find anything in White Plains either. Buying CDs online is always the way to go, but I would like to buy CDs directly from the shelf at least for once

Never been to NYC myself, but maybe Hospital Productions has some good industrial?

Bleeker Bob's has a lot of crazy stuff.

  6. Is Generations still around on Bleecker street? Loads of good used stuff in the basement (and t-shirts) and new stuff on the first floor.

  7. You cannot find nearly as many of the hard to find albums as you used to. Brick & mortar is dead.

The last time I checked, Generation Records had all that kind of stuff. Even a used EBM and Experimental section downstairs. I bought Funker Vogt T there for 3 bucks!

    Cool place.

They even have goth/industrial Tshirts. I scored a Tumor shirt there as well for 12 bucks.

Nah, CafeSoundz still has its brick and mortar store. It does clothing sales on ebay, and music sales through Discogs.

  11. Man I haven’t been to Bleeker Bobs or Generation Recs in years. I used to goto Bleeker’s in the late 80s :P

    Steven,

Bob announced today that Cafe Soundz will close its doors this August. Very sad news to me as I have been buying from CS for last 18 years. (See his Facebook page)

The store is for sale, but if it is not sold then CS will be gone from the brick and mortar ranks.

I used to go to Bleecker Bob's quite often in the late 80's as well.

Vintage Vinyl in NJ is good sometimes because they carry everything. Bad part is that everything except punk and metal are mixed together. The store is enormous.

Wow! That is sad news indeed. I knew Bobby was trying/interested in selling, but I guess he's finally drawn the line one way or another. Although I didn't get up there all too often, it was always a cool store to visit and hang out.

Did you see the Martial Canterel dates?

The sad reality is that there are NO stores in NYC that carry this type of music anymore. Generation Records was the only store in the NYC area that really carried this type of stuff but they haven't done so for a good time already. The used section for this type of music as well as the apparel that they used to carry that was all downstairs has been gone for a while now too. You'd really be wasting your time going there or anywhere else in NYC in hopes of trying to find this kind of stuff because you won't. So yeah, that means Bleecker Bob's as well in case you were wondering.

There are ultimately ONLY two stores left in the whole U.S. that really carry this type of music. There is Digital Ferret (IsoTank) in Philly and Cafe Soundz in NJ which is sadly, as of right now, on the verge of closing. So basically it's either one of those two places or online. Hope this helps. :)

Eide's Entertainment in Pittsburgh had a decent selection when I was in there last year, does it still?

Thanks for all the info everyone.

I agree, you just can't find anything on the shelves nowadays. I love buying CDs online, but I just get too impatient waiting for my orders to ship and arrive. I guess my shopping will just stay that way.
