Jvox - QED (cd Ad Noiseam) [0]

“QED” is the 3rd album for New York City based Joel Tallent under the moniker Jvox and his first for Ad Noiseam. Utilising everything from funky retro grooves to horror movie piano through to cinematic ambience, well chosen samples and digital experimentation, Tallent produces his own take on experimental electronic music. By fusing many diverse musical styles, he combines them in his own unique way to produce something that ranges from super cool to the somewhat unsettling. The album opener and title track “QED” kicks things off gently with cool funky retro bass that is repeated to some degree later on in the comic book-esque “Shadow”. In contrast, “Accidents” offers weird cinematic soundscapes while “Sbronx” and “Sweetbaby” draw on Tallent’s love of jazz, albeit in a modified form. Adding yet more variance are the stark ambient introspection of “Cold Squeeze” and “I Wonder”, both of which are heavily emotive, and the manically obsessive “Murder”. Also included on this cd is the Tallent’s own video for the album track “Hog” which takes the form of a cartoon and features an apparently possessed dancing pig taunting an old lady. While the concept is a bit strange and disturbing it somehow puts the track in perspective. “QED” is a diverse album drawing on many influences but is produced in such a way that fuses each of those styles in an original and interesting way. (PL:8)PL.
