"Zyklus" is the 10th studio album from the German Girls Under Glass. Out since January 31st the album will mark the return of the band for sure. The production and songs on this release can easily be considered as the band’s strongest output yet and it should not surprise us that it is Dependent who took the task on its shoulder to launch this album to the large crowd. Hamburg can once again be proud of its residents who also attracted Peter Spilles, singer of that other cult-band Project Pitchfork, for the "Ohne Dich" single which is already a sure reason to get this disc under your arms during your next shopping trip. Spilles’ voice is giving the track an extra strong dimension and cuts into your ears as the best slayer would do! This way it reunites Spilles characteristic vocals with the electronics that have made of GUG the cult-band they are today. And with “Zyklus” they are back where it all started for them: an electro-goth-band combining electronics with guitars. Add to this that the band had the chance to work with JP Genkel who worked with bands such as Lacrimosa, Cradle Of Filth and Love Like Blood. My personal favourites are “In die Einsamkeit”, “Truly living”, the excellent tripping ballad “Deliverance”, the slow “Under My Skin” and the pulverising “Wonderworld” that should be a real hit live being so sensitive yet very powerful. An excellent release from our wonderboys from Hamburg. (BVI:9) BVI.
