Interface – The Perfect World (CD Album – Nilaihah Records)Posted on 20/11/13
Genre/Influences: EBM, body-pop, techno-pop.
Content: Interface is a band we’ve always liked at Side-Line. Four years have passed since their last full length so I was really wondering how the new work of the New York based band would sound. The album has been preceded by the digital EP “It Begins Today”, which was more than a teaser, but a great song announcing this new opus.
I’m not saying that “The Perfect World” sounds like ‘the perfect album’, but Interface once more took me by surprise. The songs are made of terrific sound arrangements mixing elements of EBM, pop music and techno influences. The melodic aspect of the songs remain a very noticeable element, but I also have to mention the pumping kicks, the rather aggressive bass lines and the rather catchy lyrics. Interface sometimes sounds like a mix of opposites and very different influences, but in the end it all comes together in a powerful and coherent result.
“The Perfect World” features a succession of great songs and a fine selection of potential dancefloor killers. The raw- and melodic sound arrangements are present throughout the entire album. Interface sometimes reminds me a bit of Fictional (side-project of Gerrit Thomas) for this dynamic twist between EBM and electro-pop. I also like the technoid touch on top of the magic “Everyone Listening”, which is just one of the potential hits I was referring to. “Searching” is another song in the genre. This album also features a little vintage touch, which especially comes through on the already familiar “It Begins Today”.
Conclusion: Interface perfectly knows how to rhyme electronic with magic; this new full length is a solid and accomplished danceable electro-work.
Best songs: “It Begins Today”, “In Fidelity”, “Everyone Listening”, “Square One”, “Searching (Through Empty Spaces)”, “Mirror Mirror”.
