Industrial Music CDs at Storming The Base

Genre/Influences: Synth-pop, EBM.

Content: Three years have passed since the debut-album “A Deceptive Calm” released by Neutral Lies. This French duo made a noticeable evolution from their debut- to their new album.

“Cryptex” featurings typical synth-pop influences, but the sound and inspiration became harder and EBM minded. Neutral Lies totally matches with the label’s concept mainly revealing French bands passionate by analogue gear and dealing with good-old 80s electro-pop standards. Neutral Lies has this magic vintage touch built up with great bass line sounds and carrying melody lines. The original idea has been transposed into a harder and EBM-inspired style. The result is sounds successful and “Cryptex” is hiding some amazing songs. The evolution in sound is rapidly noticeable and reaching a climax on the 2nd cut entitled “Glitter Ball”. The female backing vocals on “Bewitching After-Shave” are adding a cool sensual bitchy touch while the harder male vocals and body-touch running through the music made it all fully accomplished.

“Cryptex” is a damn solid electro work featuring 11 songs. The retro style getting us –once more back to the glorious 80s experiments have been meticulously built up. The maturity of this band comes through the entire album long. The only minus point about this album sometimes are the lyrics, which are not that inspired and rather simplistic. But the lyrical aspect of the album definitely not is the main element you’ll analyze when listening to body-pop music.

Conclusion: “Cryptex” sounds like it is confirming the potential of Neutral Lies, which was noticeable on their debut release. This new work is an efficient piece of music that will enchant all vintage electro-lovers.

Best songs: “Glitter Ball”, “Aching Sign”, “Bewitching After-Shave”, “Ransack Your Dignity”.

Rate: (DP:8)DP.
